Abstract

Penelitian dilakukan karena memperhatikan rendahnya penguasaan kosakata (vocabulary) bahasa Inggris peserta didik di Indonesia. Terlihat dari salah satu hasil survei lembaga pendidikan dunia English First yang menunjukan indeks kemampuan berbahasa Inggris di Indonesia menempati urutan ke-34 dari 44 negara. Rendahnya kemampuan bahasa Inggris siswa disebabkan oleh kurangnya penguasaan kosakata yang mereka miliki. Penguasaan kosakata yang diteliti terfokus pada aspek bentuk kata (form) dan makna kata (meaning). Populasi penelitian ini merupakan peserta didik kelas tinggi di SDN Nagreg 01 yang berjulah 165 orang dengan sampel kelas V A berjumlah 35 orang yang diambil menggunakan metode teknik Cluster Sampling. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode kuasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitian One Group Time Series Design. Secara umum, hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan menunjukan bahwa metode pembelajaran Mind Mapping efektif dalam meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata (vocabulary) pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris kelas V A di SDN Nagreg 02. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa metode ini dapat diterapkan dalam pembelajaran dalam upaya meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata (vocabulary) siswa di sekolah dasar khususnya pada mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris.;--This research is done due to the Indonesian student low ability of English vocabularies. It seems from one of the surveys that have been implemented by one of the world educational institutions, English First, which showed that the index of English proficiency in Indonesia ranks 34th out of 44 countries. students had difficulties in following some activities to understand the material of learning. It is caused by the student low ability of English vocabularies. The student vocabulary ability focused on some aspects, there are form and meaning. The population of this study is a student at SDN Nagreg 02 consisting of 165 people, with 5th grade of A as a sample, consisting of 36 people selected by Cluster Sampling technique. Quasi-experimental design was used on this research by using One Group Time Series Design. Generally, the result of this research showed that the implementation of Mind Mapping Method has been effectively used in order to improve the student vocabulary ability on English Subjects for 5th grade at SDN Nagreg 02. Thus, it can be concluded that this model can be applied in learning as an effort to improve the student vocabulary ability in elementary schools, especially on English Subjects.
