Abstract

Pentingnya sikap kritis, teliti, kreatif, logis dan sistematis dalam mengelola informasi yang tepat di era serba teknologi ini menjadi latar belakang dilakukan penelitian ini. Matematika merupakan salah satu ilmu pendidikan yang membangun kompetensi-kompetensi tersebut. Pembelajaran matematika yang berhasil ditandai dengan peserta didik tidak hanya mengetahui konsep, prinsip dan prosedur matematika tetapi juga memahami apa konsep, prinsip serta prosedur matematis yang dilakukannya. Selain itu dibutuhkan juga rasa percaya diri dalam pembelajaran matematika agar siswa dapat mengikuti pembelajaran matematika tanpa rasa cemas, takut atau ragu-ragu. Penelitian terhadap pemahaman matematis dan selfconfidence siswa dilakukan dengan memberikan perlakuan berupa pembelajaran realistic mathematics education (RME). Penelitian dilakukan terhadap pada 31 orang siswa kelas IV sekolah dasar. Subjek penelitian menerima pembelajaran matematika dengan RME selama lima kali pertemuan. Kemudian dilakukan pengukuran pemahaman matematis dan self-confidence sebelum dan setelah pembelajaran. Selain 31 siswa yang menerima pembelajaran RME, dilakukan juga penelitian terhadap 31 siswa dengan pembelajaran konvensional sebagai upaya mengontrol variabel lain selain RME. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terjadi peningkatan pada siswa yang belajar dengan RME. Siswa yang telah belajar dengan RME memiliki tingkat pemahaman matematis tinggi dan self-confidence sangat tinggi. Peningkatan yang terjadi pada kelas yang menggunakan RME lebih tinggi dari peningkatan pada kelas yang menggunakan pembelajaran konvensional.;--- The importance of critical, careful, creative, logical and systematic attitude in determining the right information in this technological era is the background of this research. Mathematics is one of the educational sciences that build these competencies. Successful mathematics learning is showed when learners not only knowing the concepts, principles, and procedures of mathematics but also understanding what concepts, principles and mathematical procedures it performs. In addition, it also requires a sense of confidence in learning mathematics so that students could learn mathematics without anxiety, fear or hesitation. Research on mathematical understanding and self-confidence of students is done by giving treatment in the form of realistic mathematics education (RME). The study was conducted on 31 elementary school students in grade 4. The subject received a mathematics course with RME in five meetings. The measurement of mathematical understanding and self-confidence is done before and after learning process. Besides 31 students who received RME lessons, 31 students in another class were also conducted with conventional learning as an effort to control other variables besides RME. The results showed that there was an increasement in students who studied with RME. Students who have studied with RME have a high level of mathematical understanding and very high selfconfidence. The increasement that occurs in class that used RME is higher than the increasement in class that using conventional learning.
