Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis dan pencapaian habits of mind siswa SMP melalui model pembelajaran Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL). Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuasi eksperimen. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII di salah satu SMP Negeri di Kabupaten Kuningan, dengan mengambil dua kelas sebagai sampel menggunakan teknik purposive sampling dari 9 kelas yang tersedia. Adapun sampelnya, yaitu sebanyak 38 siswa kelompok eksperimen dan 40 siswa kelompok kontrol. Kelompok eksperimen memperoleh pembelajaran dengan menggunakan pembelajaran model Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL) dan kelompok kontrol dengan pembelajaran konvensional. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data pada penelitian ini terdiri dari instrumen tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis, skala habits of mind, dan lembar observasi. Untuk melihat peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa antara kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol, digunakan independent sample t-test dan Mann Whitney setelah prasyarat pengujian terpenuhi. Sedangkan, untuk melihat perbedaan habits of mind siswa antara kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol, digunakan uji proporsi. Hasil penelitian dianalisis dengan menggunakan Microsoft Excel 2013 dan SPSS versi 17, sedangkan analisis data kualitatif dilakukan secara deskriptif. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa: (1) peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang memperoleh model pembelajaran POGIL lebih tinggi daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran konvensional; (2) peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa kategori KAM tinggi dan sedang yang memperoleh model pembelajaran POGIL lebih tinggi daripada siswa kategori KAM tinggi dan sedang yang memperoleh pembelajaran konvensional; (3) tidak terdapat perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa kategori KAM rendah yang memperoleh model pembelajaran POGIL dengan siswa kategori KAM rendah yang memperoleh pembelajaran konvensional; (4) tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara habits of mind siswa yang memperoleh model pembelajaran POGIL dengan siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran konvensional. ;--- The aims of this study is to examine the improvement of mathematical problem solving abilities and attainment of habits of mind of junior high school students through the learning model of Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL). The research design used was quasi experiment. The population in this research is all students of class VIII in one of Junior High School in Kuningan Regency, by taking two classes as sample using purposive sampling technique from 9 classes available. The samples were 38 students of the experimental group and 40 students of the control group. The experimental group gained learning using Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL) and control group with conventional learning. Instruments used to collect data in this study consisted of a test of mathematical problem solving ability, habits of mind scale, and observation sheet. To see improvements in students' problem solving between the experimental and control groups, an independent sample t-test and Mann Whitney were used after the test requirements were met. Meanwhile, to see the difference of habits of mind between the experimental group and the control group, used proportion test. The results were analyzed using Microsoft Excel 2013 and SPSS version 17, while the qualitative data analysis was done descriptively. The results of the analysis show that: (1) improvement of mathematical problem solving ability of students who received POGIL learning higher than students who get conventional learning; (2) improvement of students' mathematical problem solving ability in high and medium KAM categories who received POGIL learning higher than high and medium KAM category students who received conventional learning; (3) there is no difference in improvement of problem solving ability of students of low category of KAM who get POGIL learning with low KAM category students who get conventional learning; (4) there is no significant difference between students habits of mind who received POGIL learning with students who received conventional learning.
