Abstract

Hasil studi pendahuluan yang dilakukan peneliti menunjukan rendahnya kemampuan membaca pemahaman dan kemampuan menulis eksposisi siswa di sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh antara metode GIST terhadap kemampuan membaca pemahaman dan kemampuan menulis eksposisi siswa SD. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuasi eksperimen dengan rancangan pretest-postest control group design. Penelitian dilakukan di kelas IV SDIT Cendekia Purwakarta sebanyak 96 orang, masingmasing 48 orang kelas eksperimen dan 48 orang kelas kontrol. Dengan menggunakan instrument pretest, postest, angket dan lembar observasi. Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh adalah : a) proses pembelajaran dengan menggunakan metode GIST mendapatkan hasil belajar yang tinggi ; b) kemampuan membaca pemahaman di kelas kontrol pada kategori rendah sedangkan di kelas eksperimen pada kategori sedang; c) kemampuan menulis eksposisi di kelas kontrol pada kategori rendah sedangkan di kelas eksperimen pada kategori sedang. Hal ini menunjukan dengan menggunakan metode GIST memberikan pengaruh yang positif terhadap kemampuan membaca pemahaman dan kemampuan menulis eksposisi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, metode GIST direkomendasikan untuk kemampuan membaca pemahaman dan kemampuan menulis eksposisi di sekolah dasar.;--- The findings in prior study by observer disclosed low abilities on reading comprehension and expository writing skills among the students in primary-level school. The current study was conducted to find out the influence of GIST method on reading comprehension skills and expository writing skills of elementary school students. In this respect, quasi-experimental designs are subject to concerns regarding with pretest-posttest control group design. The data were gathered by using pretest, posttest, questionnaire and observation sheet and it was conducted in grade IV of SDIT Cendekia Purwakarta with 48 learners, each consisted of 48 learners as experimental class and the rest 48 as control class. The research fidnings were as follows: a) learning process using GIST method acquired high learning result; b) reading comprehension skills in the control class was at the low category while in the experimental class was at the average category; c) expository writing skills in control class were at low category while in the experimental class were at the average. This demonstrated that GIST method gave a positive influence on both reading comprehension skills and expository writing skills. GIST method recommended for reading comprehension and expository writing skills in primary school.
