Abstract
The research was done because of the facts obtained from the results of a study on the ability of the mathematical representation of class XI student high school on the material quadratic function is in the low category. The researcher sees the need to study through researches related to the efforts in enhancing student ability in mathematical representation the material quadratic functions. This research will assess the learning cycle models 5e implementation to improve the mathematical representation of students on the quadratic function graph. The method used in this research is a quasi-experimental with research design is the design of the control group pretest-posttest. Population of this research is all class XI student MIA of SMAN 6 Bandung academic year 2015/2016 with a sample of two classes of class XI MIA which chosen randomly as the sample. One class as the experiment class who learns using learning cycle models 5e and one other class as the control class who learns using regular learning. The instrument which used is a test of ability mathematical representation of students on the topic quadratic function graph and scale behavior. The results showed that the quality enhancing of mathematical representation of students on the topic quadratic functions graph for experiment class is in the high category while for the control class is in the middle category. Overall student of experiment class provide pretty good attitude towards learning mathematics with learning cycle models 5e. Key words: learning cycle models 5e, mathematical representation, quadratic function graph, regular learning. Penelitian ini dilakukan karena adanya fakta yang diperoleh dari hasil studi tentang kemampuan representasi matematis siswa kelas XI Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) pada materi fungsi kuadrat dalam kategori rendah. Penulis memandang perlu untuk mengkaji melalui penelitian yang berkaitan dengan upaya peningkatan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa pada materi fungsi kuadrat. Penelitian ini mengkaji mengenai implementasi model learning cycle 5e untuk meningkatkan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa pada topik grafik fungsi kuadrat. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitian yaitu desain kelompok kontrol pretest-posttest. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas XI MIA SMA Negeri 6 Bandung tahun ajaran 2015/2016 dengan sampel dua kelas dari kelas XI MIA secara acak kelas. Satu kelas sebagai kelas eksperimen dengan model learning cycle 5e dan satu kelas lainnya sebagai kelas kontrol dengan pembelajaran biasa. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes kemampuan representasi matematis siswa pada topik grafik fungsi kuadrat dan angket skala sikap. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kualitas peningkatan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa pada topik grafik fungsi kuadrat untuk kelas eksperimen berada dalam kategori tinggi sedangkan untuk kelas kontrol berada dalam kategori sedang. Secara keseluruhan siswa kelas eksperimen memberikan sikap yang cukup baik terhadap pembelajaran matematika dengan model learning cycle 5e.
