Abstract

Sejalan dengan tantangan pendidikan abad 21, upaya peningkatan keterampilan kognitif seperti berpikir tingkat tinggi menjadi fokus perhatian pendidikan kini. Berpikir tingkat tinggi sebagai keterampilan yang sifatnya dapat dipelajari juga diajarkan, memberi kesempatan pendidikan Indonesia untuk berbenah diri dalam membentuk SDM yang berkemampuan Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS). Namun praktik di lapangan membuktikan, keterampilan ini masih belum dilatihkan dengan baik di sekolah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan efektivitas penerapan model pembelajaran Science Technology and Society (STS) terhadap peningkatan kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi siswa pada mata pelajaran IPA kelas VII di SMP Negeri 26 Bandung. Rumusan masalah umum penelitian ini, yaitu: bagaimana efektivitas penerapan model pembelajaran Science Technology and Society (STS) terhadap peningkatan kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi siswa pada mata pelajaran IPA kelas VII di SMP Negeri 26 Bandung? Adapun rumusan masalah penelitian secara khusus, yaitu: apakah terdapat peningkatan kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi siswa yang signifikan pada aspek menganalisis (C4), aspek mengevaluasi (C5), dan aspek mengkreasi (C6) antara sebelum dan setelah diterapkannya model pembelajaran Science Technology and Society (STS) pada mata pelajaran IPA kelas VII di SMP Negeri 26 Bandung? Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuasi eksperimen, dengan desain penelitian One Group Time Series. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui tes bentuk uraian non-objektif (BUNO) dan tes unjuk kerja (produk). Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik Probability Sampling, dengan kategori Cluster Sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa, penerapan model pembelajaran STS efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi siswa pada mata pelajaran IPA pokok bahasan Pencemaran Lingkungan di kelas VII SMP Negeri 26 Bandung. Hal tersebut dibuktikan dengan adanya peningkatan yang signifikan pada skor rata-rata (pre-test = 31,84) ke (post-test = 46,82), dengan (gain = 14,98) setelah diterapkannya model pembelajaran STS. Kata Kunci: Model Pembelajaran Science Technology and Society (STS), Berpikir Tingkat Tinggi, Mata Pelajaran Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam. In accordance with the challenges of education in the 21st century, efforts to enhance the cognitive skills such as high-order thinking becomes the main focus of education nowadays. High-order thinking as a skill which can be learned in nature is also taught by many people, giving Indonesia's education the opportunities to improve themselves in forming human resources with Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS). But the reality proved that the skill have not been trained properly in school. This research was aimed to describe the effectiveness on the application of Science Technology and Society (STS) learning model towards the enhancement of students' high-order thinking skills in the science subjects of grade VII in SMP Negeri 26 Bandung. The formulation of the problem in this research is: how is the effectiveness on the application of Science Technology and Society (STS) learning model towards the enhancement of high-order thinking skills on the students of grade VII in SMP Negeri 26 Bandung in science subject? The formulation of research problems in particular, is: whether there is a significant increase in the students' high-order thinking skills on the aspects of analyzing (C4), evaluating (C5), and creating (C6) between the prior and after the implementation of Science Technology and Society (STS) learning model on the science subject of grade VII in SMP Negeri 26 Bandung? The research method used is quasi experimental, with the research design of One Group Time Series. The research data was collected through non-objective form of explanation test (BUNO) and performance test (product). The sampling technique used is the probability sampling technique, with cluster sampling category. The results indicated that, the application of STS learning model is effective in enhancing the students' high-order thinking on the science subjects in the discussion of Environmental Pollution on grade VII of SMP Negeri 26 Bandung. This is proved by a significant increase in the mean score of pre-test = 31.84 to post-test = 46.82, with the gain = 14.98 after the application of the STS learning model.
