Abstract

Rendahnya kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa di SMA Negeri 9 Bandung melatar belakangi pelaksanaan penelitian ini. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan model Problem Based Instruction melalui metode diskusi terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain Nonequivalent Control Group. Subjek terdiri dari dua kelas yaitu kelas XI IPS 4 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas XI IPS 2 sebagai kelas kontrol. Pengumpulan data menggunakan tes dalam bentuk uraian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) terdapat perbedaan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas eksperimen yang diberi perlakuan berupa model Problem Based Instruction melalui metode diskusi antara sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan pada kompetensi dasar pembangunan dan pertumbuhan ekonomi, dan (2) terdapat perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa eksperimen yang diberi perlakuan berupa model Problem Based Instruction melalui metode diskusi dengan kelas kontrol yang menggunakan metode ceramah pada kompetensi dasar pembangunan dan pertumbuhan ekonomi. ; The Low critical thinking skills of students in eleventh grade of SMAN 9 Bandung were the main concern of the study. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of applying the Problem Based Instruction model through the method towards the students’ critical thinking ability. The method used was quasi experiment by using Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Subjects consisted of two classes XI IPS 4 as an experimental class while XI IPS 2 as the control class. The data collected by using the test in the form of description. the result showed that (1) there are differences in students’ critical thinking ability before and after given the of Problem Based Instruction model through discussion method to their understanding of basic competence development and economic growth, and (2) there are significance differences in students critical thinking ability in experimental class which is given the treatment of Problem Based Instruction model through discussion methodto their understanding of basic competence development and economic growth.
