    Abstract

    Kemampuan membaca pemahaman teks eksposisi masih menjadi tantangan bagi siswa SMA, terutama karena metode pembelajarannya yang kurang bervariasi sehingga cenderung menurunkan motivasi siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis efektivitas metode KWL (Know-Want to Know-Learned) yang dikembangkan oleh Donna Ogle, berbantuan Quizizz dalam meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman teks eksposisi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian eksperimen kuasi dengan desain nonequivalent control group design. Populasi penelitian adalah seluruh siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 1 Baleendah tahun ajaran 2024/2025, dengan sampel sebanyak 46 siswa yang dibagi menjadi 23 siswa kelas eksperimen dan 23 siswa kelas kontrol. Untuk mengukur kemampuan membaca digunakan instrumen tes. Hasil pretest menunjukkan rata-rata skor kelas eksperimen sebesar 71,13 dengan kategori “cukup”, sedangkan kelas kontrol sebesar 77,04 dengan kategori “baik”. Setelah perlakuan, nilai rata-rata posttest kelas eksperimen meningkat menjadi 84,57 dengan kategori “baik”, sementara kelas kontrol hanya mencapai 77,96 dengan kategori “baik” tanpa peningkatan yang berarti. Analisis statistik menggunakan Uji Mann-Whitney U menunjukkan nilai sig. (2-tailed) = 0,038 < 0,05, yang berarti terdapat perbedaan signifikan antara kedua kelas. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa peningkatan skor kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelas kontrol, sehingga metode KWL berbantuan Quizizz efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman teks eksposisi siswa SMA. Penelitian ini memberikan manfaat penting, yaitu menawarkan strategi pembelajaran interaktif dan relevan dengan kebutuhan siswa abad ke-21 untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman. The ability to comprehend expository texts remains a challenge for senior high school students, particularly because the teaching methods applied are less varied and tend to decrease students’ motivation. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the KWL (Know–Want to Know–Learned) method developed by Donna Ogle, assisted by Quizizz, in improving students’ reading comprehension of expository texts. This research employed a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. The population was all tenth-grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Baleendah in the 2024/2025 academic year, with a sample of 46 students divided into 23 students in the experimental class and 23 students in the control class. A reading comprehension test was used as the research instrument. The pretest results showed that the experimental class obtained an average score of 71.13 in the “fair” category, while the control class obtained 77.04 in the “good” category. After the treatment, the average posttest score of the experimental class increased to 84.57 in the “good” category, while the control class only reached 77.96 in the “good” category without a meaningful increase. Statistical analysis using the Mann-Whitney U test yielded a sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.038 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the two classes. These findings confirm that the score improvement in the experimental class was higher than in the control class, proving that the KWL method assisted by Quizizz is effective in enhancing senior high school students’ reading comprehension of expository texts. This study provides an important contribution by offering an interactive learning strategy relevant to 21st-century students’ needs for improving reading comprehension skills.
