Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh permasalahan rendahnya motivasi belajar siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS, hal ini disebabkan proses pembelajaran yang masih konvensional. Dari permasalahan tersebut, perlu adanya inovasi pembelajaran yang kreatif dan menyenangkan yaitu dengan menggunakan strategi teka teki silang agar motivasi belajar siswa pada pembelajaran IPS dapat meningkat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan strategi teka teki silang (TTS) terhadap motivasi belajar siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode eksperimen dengan rancangan Nonequivalent Control-Group Design. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan purposive sampling dan diambil 2 kelas, kelas VIII B sebagai kelas eksperimen yang menerima treatment berupa penerapan strategi teka teki silang dan kelas VIII C sebagai kelas kontrol yang tidak menerima treatment. Teknik pengumpulan data motivasi belajar siswa menggunakan angket tertutup. Hasilnya diolah dan dianalisis menggunakan uji hipotesis atau uji-t. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan signifikan pada motivasi belajar siswa di kelas eksperimen antara sebelum dan sesudah diberikan treatment, sedangkan pada kelas kontrol yang tidak diberikan treatment hasilnya menunjukkan tidak terdapat perbedaan pada motivasi belajar siswa. Terdapat peningkatan motivasi belajar siswa yang dipengaruhi oleh penerapan strategi teka teki silang dalam pembelajaran IPS. ..... This research is motivated by the problem of low student learning motivation in social studies, this is due to the conventional learning process. From those factors, researcher needs to use creative and fun learning innovation by using crossword puzzle strategy to help students in social studies improve. This study aims to determine the effect of the application of crossword puzzle strategy on student learning motivation in social studies. The research employed Nonequivalent Group-Control as the method. The sampling technique used purposive sampling and taken 2 classes, class VIII B as the experimental class that received treatment in the form of the application of crossword puzzle strategy and class VIII C as the control class that did not receive treatment. Data collection techniques of student learning motivation used closed questionnaire. Enhancement was processed and analyzed using hypothesis test or T-Test. The result showed that there was a significant difference between before and after treatment in learning in the experimental class, while in the control class which was not given treatment and as a result there was no difference in students’ learning motivation. There was an enhancement in students’ learning motivation influenced by the application of crossword puzzle strategies in social studies.
