Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mengetahui karakteristik berpikir aljabar siswa SMP kelas VIII berdasarkan hasil identifikasi menggunakan tes Superitem model SOLO, dan (2) mengetahui jenis-jenis kesalahan yang terjadi pada siswa SMP kelas VIII dalam mengerjakan tes Superitem model SOLO. Desain yang digunakan penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII yang berjumlah 32 siswa di salah satu SMP N Bandung. Data penelitian diperoleh dari instrumen penelitian yaitu tes Superitem model SOLO, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa: (1) Siswa yang mencapai level unistruktural dalam menyelesaikan tes Superitem model SOLO menunjukkan karakteristik berpikir aljabar sebagai generalisasi aritmatik. Siswa yang mencapai level multistuktural dalam menyelesaikan tes Superitem model SOLO menunjukkan karakteristik berpikir aljabar sebagai pemodelan/ fungsi, bahasa matematika, dan generalisasi aritmatik. Siswa yang mencapai level relasional dalam menyelesaikan tes Superitem model SOLO menunjukkan karakteristik berpikir aljabar sebagai pemodelan/ fungsi, bahasa matematika, representasi, generalisasi aritmatik, dan pemecahan masalah. Siswa yang mencapai level extended abstract dalam menyelesaikan tes Superitem model SOLO menunjukkan karakteristik berpikir aljabar sebagai pemodelan/ fungsi, bahasa matematika, representasi, generalisasi aritmatik, pemecahan masalah, dan quantitative reasoning. (2) Siswa mengalami beberapa kesalahan dalam menyelesaikan tes Superitem model SOLO, yaitu: kesalahan konsep, kesalahan teknis, kesalahan interpretasi bahasa, kesalahan dalam menggunakan data, dan kesalahan dalam penarikan kesimpulan dengan masing-masing prosentase kesalahan adalah 9,38%, 53,13%, 64,84%, 55,47%, dan 12,5%.;-- This study aims to: (1) know the algebraic thinking characteristics of eighth grade students based on the identification using Superitem test of SOLO model, and (2) know the types of errors of eighth grade students in solving Superitem test of SOLO model. The design used in this study was qualitative descriptive. The subject of this study was eighth grade students consisting of 32 students in one public school in Bandung. The study data were obtained from research instrument consisting of Superitem test of SOLO model, interview, and documentation. Based on the result of this study, it was concluded that: (1) students at the unistructural level in solving Superitem test of SOLO model show algebraic thinking characteristic as arithmetic generalization. Students at the multistuctural level in solving Superitem test of SOLO model show the algebraic thinking characteristics as modeling/ function, mathematics language, and arithmetic generalization. Students at the relational level in solving the Superitem test of SOLO model show the algebraic thinking characteristics as modeling/ functioning, mathematical language, representation, arithmetic generalization, and problem solving. Students at the extended abstract level in solving the Superitem test of SOLO model show the algebraic thinking characteristics as modeling/ function, mathematical language, representation, arithmetic generalization, problem solving, and quantitative reasoning. (2) Some errors made by students in solving Superitem test of SOLO model, they are: concept errors, technical errors, language interpretation errors, errors in using data, and errors in drawing conclusion with each percentage is 9.38%, 53, 13%, 64,84%, 55,47%, and 12.5% respectively.
