Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya kemampuan abstraksi matematis dalam pembentukan konsep matematika dan fakta rendahnya kemampuan abstraksi matematis siswa. Penelitian ini mengkaji mengenai implementasi pendekatan Contextual Teaching and Learning untuk meningkatkan kemampuan abstraksi matematis siswa. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan abstraksi matematis siswa yang memperoleh pendekatan Contextual Teaching and Learning dan siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran biasa dengan metode ekspositori serta menganalisis kesalahan yang dilakukan siswa dalam menyelesaikan tes kemampuan abstraksi matematis. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kuasi eksperimen dengan desain kelompok kontrol non-ekuivalen. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 10 Bandung dengan dua kelas sebagai sampel penelitian. Instrumen tes yang digunakan adalah tes kemampuan abstraksi matematis pada materi segitiga. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa (1) peningkatan kemampuan abstraksi matematis siswa dengan pendekatan Contextual Teaching and Learning lebih baik daripada siswa dengan pembelajaran biasa yang peningkatannya berada pada kategori sedang; (2) analisis kesalahan siswa berdasarkan indikator kemampuan abstraksi matematis menyatakan bahwa persentase kesalahan terbesar pada jenis kesalahan miskonsepsi yaitu pada indikator merepresentasikan masalah ke dalam bahasa dan simbol-simbol matematika serta inidikator proses memanipulasi simbol. Persentase terbesar untuk kesalahan biasa yaitu pada indikator membuat generalisasi, pengidentifikasian dan perumusan masalah, dan pembentukan konsep matematika terkait konsep lain. Dan persentase terbesar untuk kesalahan karena ketidaktahuan yaitu pada indikator formalisasi objek matematika dan pembentukan objek matematika lebih lanjut. Kata kunci: Kemampuan Abstraksi Matematis, Pendekatan Contextual Teaching and Learning. This research is motivated by the importance of the mathematical abstraction ability in the formation of mathematical concepts and a fact that students' mathematical abstraction ability is still low. This study examines the implementation of Contextual Teaching and Learning approach to improve students' mathematical abstraction ability. The purpose of this study is to determine the increase in mathematical abstraction capabilities of students who received Contextual Teaching and Learning approach and students who obtained ordinary teaching with expository method and analyze the mistakes made by students in completing the test of mathematical abstraction ability. The method used in this research is a quasi-experimental design with a control group of non-equivalent. The population in this study were all students of class VII SMP Negeri 10 Bandung with two classes as samples. The test instrument used is a mathematical abstraction ability tests on the triangle material. The results showed that (1) the improvement of mathematical abstraction ability of students with Contextual Teaching and Learning approach is better than students with ordinary learning that the increase was in middle category; (2) the error analysis of students which based on students’ mathematical abstraction ability stated that the largest percentage error on the type of error misconception are the indicator of representing a problem into the language and symbols of mathematics and indicator of manipulating symbols process. The largest percentage for a simple mistake is on the indicator of making generalizations, identification and formulation of the problem, and the formation of mathematical concepts related to other concepts. And the largest percentage of errors due to ignorance is on the indicator of the formalization of mathematical objects and the establishment of further mathematical object.
