Abstract

Latar belakang penelitian ini adalah rendahnya kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa, terutama di tingkat SMP. Untuk itu, peneliti mencoba menerapkan pembelajaran yang berbeda dengan pembelajaran konvensional sebagai solusi untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah: 1) Untuk mengetahui kualitas peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran melalui strategi REACT; 2) Untuk mengetahui apakah peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran melalui strategi REACT lebih baik daripada siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran konvensional; 3)Untuk mengetahui sikap siswa terhadap pembelajaran matematika melalui strategi REACT. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuasi eksperimen. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII semester genap tahun akademik 2012/2013 di salah satu SMP Negeri di Bandung. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah instrumen tes yang terdiri dari pretes dan postes, serta instrumen non-tes yang terdiri dari angket siswa, lembar observasi siswa dan guru, dan jurnal harian siswa. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa: 1) Kualitas peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang belajar melalui strategi REACT termasuk ke dalam kategori rendah; 2) Peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran melalui strategi REACT tidak lebih baik dibandingkan dengan peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran konvensional; dan 3) Secara umum, seluruh siswa menunjukkan sikap positif terhadap pembelajaran melalui strategi REACT.----------This study was motivated by the insufficient score of students’ mathematical problem solving competence, particularly happened to the students of Junior High School. We tried to apply the REACT strategy so that the applying of unconventional approach on teaching and learning process should be tried, as a solution for improving the mathematical problem solving competence. The aims of this study were contains of: 1) To classify the improvement quality of mathematical problem solving competence of students who got mathematics class through REACT strategy; 2) To discover that REACT strategy gave a better result or not, on improving mathematical problem solving competence, compared to conventional approach of teaching and learning process; 3) To observe how the students’ reaction to the applying of REACT strategy at their mathematics class was. This study used quasi-experiment methods. The population were all students from one of SMP Negeri in Bandung, who sat on seventh grade while second semester on academic year 2012/2013. The instruments of this study were test instrument, which were contains of pre-test and post-test, and also non-test instrument which were contains of questionnaire form, observation sheet of students’ and teacher’s activity, and students’ daily journals. The result of this study showed us: 1) The improvement quality of mathematical problem solving competence of students who got mathematics class through REACT strategy was categorized as poor; 2) The improvement of mathematical problem solving competence of students who got mathematics class through REACT strategy, was not better than the improvement of mathematical problem solving competence of students who got mathematics class through conventional approach; 3) In general, all of the students paid a good attention, gave a positive reaction to the applying of REACT strategy at their mathematics class.
