Abstract
Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi oleh rendahnya kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa fase B pada materi membandingkan dan mengurutkan pecahan berpembilang satu. Hal tersebut dikarenakan belum diterapkannya pendekatan pembelajaran yang memberikan ruang bagi siswa untuk aktif membangun pemahamannya secara mandiri serta belum tersajinya masalah realistik yang dapat dibayangkan oleh siswa. Adapun sebagai upaya membantu siswa memahami konsep matematika dengan baik maka diperlukan salah satu pendekatan pembelajaran berbasis student centered (berpusat kepada siswa) yang bertitik tolak dari kehidupan nyata siswa dan berkaitan dengan konteks ilmu matematika, yaitu melalui penerapan pendekatan realistic mathematics education (RME). Adapun tujuan dari penelitian ini, yaitu untuk mendeskripsikan efektivitas pendekatan RME terhadap peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa fase B pada materi membandingkan dan mengurutkan pecahan berpembilang satu. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif melalui desain penelitian pre-experimental bentuk one-group pretest-posttest design. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan tes berupa pretest dan posttest. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa yang signifikan antara sebelum dan sesudah diterapkannya pendekatan RME. Selain itu, pendekatan RME berada pada kriteria keefektifan yang tinggi dengan skor n-gain sebesar 0,83. Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pendekatan RME efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa fase B pada materi membandingkan dan mengurutkan pecahan berpembilang satu. This study was motivated by the low level of mathematical conceptual understanding ability among Phase B students in the topic of comparing and ordering fractions with a numerator of one. This issue was due to the absence of a learning approach that provides opportunities for students to actively construct their understanding independently, as well as the lack of realistic problems that are readily imaginable for students. As an effort to help students understand mathematical concepts effectively, it is necessary to implement a student-centered learning approach grounded in students’ real-life experiences and related to the context of mathematical knowledge, namely through the application of the realistic mathematics education (RME) approach. This study aims to describe the effectiveness of the RME approach in improving the mathematical conceptual understanding ability of Phase B students in the topic of comparing and ordering fractions with a numerator of one. The research method used was quantitative, using a pre-experimental design in the form of a one-group pretest-posttest design. The data collection technique used was a test consisting of a pretest and a posttest. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ mathematical conceptual understanding ability before and after the implementation of the RME approach. In addition, the RME approach fell into the high-effectiveness category with an n-gain score of 0,83. Therefore, it can be concluded that the RME approach is effective in improving the mathematical conceptual understanding ability of Phase B students.
