    Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis argumentasi siswa melalui penerapan pendekatan Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) siswa kelas VIII-7 SMPN 3 Bandung tahun ajaran 2024/2025. This research is motivated by the low argumentative writing ability of SMPN 3 Bandung students which is characterized by a lack of logical structure, inability to construct convincing arguments, and lack of mastery of language rules. This problem is caused by a learning approach that is less relevant and not adjusted to the level of students' abilities. To overcome this problem, the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach is applied which emphasizes learning according to students' actual abilities, is interactive, and oriented towards learning needs. This study aims to improve students' argumentative writing abilities through the application of the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach for class VIII-7 students of SMPN 3 Bandung in the 2024/2025 academic year. This study uses a qualitative approach with the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method of the Kemmis and McTaggart model which is implemented in two cycles. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, field notes, interviews, documentation, and argumentative writing tests. The results of the study show that the TaRL approach can improve students' argumentative writing abilities compared to their initial abilities before the approach was applied. In cycle I, the average score of students' writing results was 66.73. The average can be seen from the results of argumentative writing skills that are still not optimal, students are still unable to compose argumentative writing with a complete structure, especially the weak ability to develop the introduction and conclusion. In cycle II, there was an increase in the average value, which was 79.11. This can be seen from the students' ability to compose relevant arguments, support opinions with logical reasons, and use appropriate language rules. Thus, the TaRL approach is effectively applied to improve the argumentative writing skills of class VIII-7 students of SMPN 3 Bandung.
