Abstract
Kemampuan representasi matematis dan kemampuan pemahaman konsep merupakan kemampuan yang penting untuk dikuasai oleh peserta didik. Namun penelitian-penelitian terdahulu menunjukan bahwa kemampuan representasi matematis dan kemampuan pemahaman konsep sebagian besar siswa Indonesia masih rendah. Kedua kemampuan tersebut dipengaruhi oleh berbagai faktor, yaitu faktor internal dan eksternal. Salah satu faktor internal yang mempengaruhi kedua kemampuan matematis tersebut adalah self concept siswa. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan tingkat self concept siswa, mendeskripsikan kemampuan reprsentasi matematis dan pemahaman konsep siswa, mendeskripsikan hubungan antara kemampuan representasi matematis dan pemahaman konsep, serta mendeskripsikan apa saja kesulitan yang dialami siswa pada kedua kemampuan matematis tersebut berdasarkan self concept yang dimilikinya. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Partisipan penelitian merupakan 29 orang siswa kelas X-6 di salah satu SMA swasta di daerah Cikancung, Kabupaten Bandung. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa mayoritas siswa memiliki self concept sedang serta memiliki kemampuan yang kurang baik pada representasi matematis maupun pemahaman konsepnya. Terdapat hubungan yang positif yang antara kemampuan representasi matematis dan pemahaman konsep. Selain itu, terdapat juga perbedaan kesulitan yang dialami siswa dengan tingkat self concept yang berbeda, baik pada hasil tes kemampuan representasi matematis maupun pada hasil tes kemampuan pemahaman konsep. Mathematical representation abilities and the ability to understand concepts are important abilities for students to master. However, previous studies show that the mathematical representation ability and concept understanding ability of most Indonesian students is still low. These two abilities are influenced by various factors, namely internal and external factors. One of the internal factors that influences these two mathematical abilities is students' self-concept. The aim of this research is to describe students' level of self-concept, describe students' mathematical representation abilities and conceptual understanding, describe the relationship between mathematical representation abilities and conceptual understanding, and describe what difficulties students experience in these two mathematical abilities based on their self-concept. This research uses qualitative research with a case study method. The research participants were 29 students in class X-6 at a private high school in the Cikancung area, Bandung Regency. The research results show that the majority of students have moderate self-concept and have poor abilities in mathematical representation and understanding concepts. There is a positive relationship between mathematical representation ability and concept understanding. Apart from that, there are also differences in the difficulties experienced by students with different levels of self-concept, both in the results of the mathematical representation ability test and in the results of the concept understanding ability test.
