Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis peserta didik pada materi luas bangun datar. Hal tersebut dikarenakan kegiatan pembelajaran cenderung menerapkan pendekatan student centerdengan metode ceramah yang menyebabkan peserta didik menjadi pasif selama proses pembelajaran dan kesulitan dalam memahami materi yang diajarkan. Terlebih lagi materi luas bangun datar yang berhubungan dengan rumus matematika. Dalam mengonkretkan konsep abstrak padamateri luas bangun datar diperlukan penerapan pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan peserta didik, salah satunya melalui penerapan pendekatan Realistic Mathematics Education (RME). Adapun tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui efektivitas pendekatan RME untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis peserta didik jenjang fase C pada materi luas bangun datar. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian pre-experimental design dengan desain one group pre-test-post-test design. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu intrumen tes berupa pre-test dan post-test. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis yang signifikan antara sebelum dan sesudah diterapkannya pendekatan RME pada materi luas bangun datar. Hal ini dibuktikan melalui uji perbedaan rerata dengan uji Wilcoxon. Selain itu, seberapa besar keefektifannya dibuktikan dengan uji N-Gain yang berada pada kriteria tinggi. Maka dari itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pendekatan RME efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis peserta didik jenjang fase C pada materi luas bangun datar. This study was motivated by the low ability of students' mathematical concept understanding on the material of flat area. This is because learning activities tend to apply a student center approach with the lecture method which causes students to be passive during the learning process and have difficulty in understanding the material being taught. Moreover, the material of flat area is related to mathematical formulas. In concretizing abstract concepts on the area of flat shapes, it is necessary to apply learning that suits the needs of students, one of which is through the application of the Realistic Mathematics Education approach. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the RME approach to improve the ability to understand the mathematical concepts of phase C students on the material of flat area. The research method used is pre-experimental design research with a one group pre-tt-post-test design. The instruments used in this study are test instruments in the form of pre-test and post-test. The results of this study indicate a significant increase in the ability to understand mathematical concepts between before and after the application of the RME approach to the material of flat area. This is proven through the mean difference test with the Wilcoxon test. In addition, how much effectiveness is proven by the N-Gain test which is in the high criteria. Therefore, it can be concluded that the RME approach is effective for improving the mathematical concept understanding ability of phase C students on the material of flat area.
