    Abstract

Problem-solving ability are needed by students because, with this ability, not only problems in mathematics can be solved, but several other problems in everyday life can also be solved by students. Self-Esteem is the view that a person has about himself, the higher a person's Self-Esteem, the more positive the individual's view of his abilities is. This study aims to determine whether there are differences in mathematical problem-solving ability between high school students who have high, medium, and low Self-Esteem and whether there are differences in mathematical problem-solving ability among high school students based on categorization (high, medium, and low) for each Self-Esteem indicator. This research uses a quantitative approach, while the method uses a descriptive-comparative approach. The sample as well as the population in this study were all XII grade students of Christian High School 3 Bina Bakti Bandung, totaling 62 students. The selection of subjects in this study used a saturated sampling technique because population members were used as samples. Research data were obtained using research instruments in the form of mathematical problem-solving ability test questions, which were done offline, and Self-Esteem questionnaires given through Google Form links, which were also done directly at school. The results of this study showed: (1) There is no significant difference in mathematical problem-solving ability of 12th grade Natural Sciences Major students in terms of high, medium, or low Self-Esteem. (2) There is no significant difference in mathematical problem-solving ability of 12th grade Social Sciences Major students in terms of high, medium, or low Self-Esteem. (3) There is a significant difference in mathematical problem-solving ability between 12th grade students majoring in science and social studies. (4) There is no significant difference in self-esteem between 12th grade students majoring in science and social studies.
