Abstract

Critical thinking skills and scientific attitudes in elementary school students are still in the low category. The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement of critical thinking skills and identify scientific attitudes after the application of the RADEC learning model in learning science ecosystem material. This research is a quantitative approach with a type of quasi-experimental method involving fifth grade students in one of the public elementary schools in Sumedang district as many as 24 experimental class students and 21 control class students. The instruments used are test instruments in the form of description questions to measure critical thinking skills, attitude scale questionnaires to measure scientific attitudes, observation sheets and student response questionnaires to determine the implementation of RADEC learning, all of which have been declared valid and reliable by experts and field trial results. The results showed that critical thinking skills in the class that received learning using the RADEC learning model increased more significantly than the class that received learning with the lecture and question and answer method. In addition, there is a significant difference between the average value of scientific attitudes of experimental and control classes. The application of the RADEC learning model whose stages consist of Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, and Create can improve critical thinking skills and bring out students' scientific attitudes.
