    Abstract

    The title of this paper is Identity Construction in Fable: Analysis of Characterization Using Functional Grammar. It focuses on the identity construction of characters in fables written by Margo Fallis. The aim of the research is to find the identity construction in the stories with the approached of qualitative study. The descriptive method is used exploring the systemic functional grammar. Based on the features ofdata, the researcher uses transitivity process as the main linguistic tool to meet the aims of this study. Based on the process types' analysis, the characterization process and the identity construction ofthe characters can be identified. The three identities found in the fables are the identity of being smart, the identity of being indifferent and the identity of being sensitive. The three identities mentioned in the stories are identified as given identities. This means that the three identities are also constructed by the relation between the characters with other characters in the stories.
