Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya pemahaman konsep IPA di kelas V pada salah satu Sekolah Dasar Negeri di Kecamatan Sukajadi Kota Bandung. Rendahnya pemahaman konsep siswa ditandai dengan rendahnya kemampuan siswa dalam menjelaskan kembali materi pelajaran yang disampaikan guru, siswa masih ragu untuk membedakan konsep, dan siswa tidak dapat memberikan contoh ketika ditanya oleh guru. Penyebab rendahnya pemahaman konsep karena guru cenderung menggunakan metode ceramah, keterbatasan media pembelajaran, dan siswa hanya menghafal konsep-konsep IPA dari buku saja. Tujuan dilakukan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa dengan menerapkan metode eskperimen pada pembelajaran IPA. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) Kemmis dan McTaggart. Penelitian dilakukan selama dua siklus. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas V. Pelaksanaan pembelajaran yang dilakukan guru dengan menerapkan metode eksperimen pada siklus I yaitu 67% dan meningkat di siklus II yaitu 100%. Hasil rata-rata tes evaluasi pemahaman konsep siswa pada siklus I yaitu 69,22 dan meningkat di siklus II yaitu 87. Hasil ketuntasan belajar siswa pada siklus I yaitu sebanyak 55,5% tuntas dan meningkat di siklus II yaitu 91,66%. Pemahaman konsep siswa per indikator pada pembelajaran IPA pada siklus I dan siklus II meningkat; a) indikator menjelaskan pada siklus I yaitu 72,91% dan meningkat di siklus II yaitu 86,11%, b) indikator memberikan contoh pada siklus I yaitu 66,67% dan meningkat di siklus II yaitu 94,44%, c) indikator menyimpulkan pada siklus I yaitu 68,05% dan meningkat di siklus II yaitu 81, 8%. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan metode eksperimen dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep IPA di kelas V Sekolah Dasar.;---This research was motivated by the low understanding of the concept in science learning at the fifth grade in one of elementary school at Sukajadi District in Bandung City. The low understanding of student’s concept was characterized by the low ability of students to explain the subject matter that explained by the teacher, the students are still hesitant to distinguish the concept, and the students can not give an example when ask by the teacher. The reason for the low understanding of the concept because teacher tend to use lecture methods, the limitations of instructional media, and students only memorize the concept of science from the book. The purpose of this research was to improve the understanding of science concept by applying experimental method. The method which used in this research is the Classroom Action Research Kemmis and McTaggart. This research was conducted for two cycles. The subject of this research was fifth grade of elementary school. Implementation of the learning done by the teacher by applying the experimental method in first cycle that was 67% and increased in second cycle that was 100% . The average result of the evaluation test of student’s understanding concept in the first cycle was 69,22 and increased in second cycle that was 87. The results of student’s learning completeness in first cycle 55,5%, while in second cycle increased of 91,66%. The result student’s understanding concept per indicator in science learning from first cycle and second cycle increased; a) in first cycle the explaining indicators are 72,91% and increased in second cycle that was 86,11%, b) the exampling indicators in first cycle are 66,67% and increased in second cycle that was 94,44%, c) the concluding indicators are 68,05% and increased in second cycle that was 81,8%. Based on these result it can be concluded that the implementation of experimental method can be increased the understanding of science concept in fifth grade of elementary school.
