Abstract

----- This research is motivated by a problem in the ability of fifth grade students in understanding reading texts. Reading learning activities in class have not been carried out systematically and focused on student understanding. The OK5R strategy was implemented as an effort to improve students' reading comprehension skills. The study was conducted using the Classroom Action Research method using the Kemmis and McTaggart designs. This research was conducted in two cycles, each of which consisted of 4 stages: planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. Data analysis was performed with qualitative data analysis and quantitative data analysis. Implementation of the stages in the OK5R strategy is divided into three stages, namely the pre-reading stage, the reading stage and the post-reading stage. The percentage of classical completeness reading students' understanding in the first cycle was 14% and in the second cycle was 86%. The increase in the mean score of the reading comprehension indicator is at the first indicator in the first cycle of 63.64 and in the second cycle 84.09. The second indicator in the first cycle was 34.09 and in the second cycle were 90.91. The third indicator in the first cycle was 72.73 and in the second cycle were 76.14. The fourth indicator in the first cycle was 61.36 and 76.14. Thus, the OK5R comprehension reading strategy can improve reading comprehension skills.
