Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi dari beberapa masalah yang terjadi di kelas VII di SMP Negeri 1 Lembang salah satunya yaitu kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik dalam pembelajaran IPS. Hasil observasi menghasilkan beberapa temuan yaitu kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik masih rendah, serta peserta didik belum mampu memberikan penjelasan lebih lanjut terkait materi dengan menggunakan pendapat sendiri., banyak pemberian materi yang diberikan pada saat proses belajar mengajar sehingga tercipta pembelajaran yang berpusat pada guru (teacher centered). Penelitian ini merujuk beberapa rumusan masalah seperti apakah ada perbedaan kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik antara pretest dan posttest saat melakukan treatment dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran problem based learning di kelas eksperimen dengan kelas kontrol yang menggunakan model pembelajaran konvensional. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui, menganalisis dan mengevaluasi perbedaan secara signifikan kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik dengan menggunakan model problem based learning dengan model konvensional. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuasi eksperimen dengan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan menggunakan Nonequivalent (Pretest-Posttest) Control-Group Design. Teknik pengumpulan data yang dipakai pada penelitian ini adalah dengan menggunakan tes. Teknik analisis data dilakukan dengan uji-t independen sampel test. Adapun hasil dari penelitian ini bahwa terdapat perbedaan signifikan jika dilihat dari presetase rata-rata kelas eksperimen saat prettest 21,31% sedangkan pada posttest 33,67%. Adapun hasil pretest kelas kontrol 18,92% dan posttest 26,10%.Hasil penelitian ini memberikan rekomendasi kepada guru dan peneliti selanjutnya untuk menggunakan model pembelajaran Problem based learning terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik. Selain itu model pembelajaran Problem based learning juga diharapkan dapat mendorong peserta didik agar bisa memechakan masalah atau persoalan yang dihadapi dalam kehidupan sehari-hari khususnya dalam pembelajaran IPS---- This research is based on one of the problems that happen at Seventh Grade Students in Junior High School 1 Lembang which is related to critical thinking ability of learners in learning Social Science. The result of the observation delivers some findings that the critical thinking ability of students are considered low, and the students are not able to give further explanation related to the material by using their own opinion, giving too much material by the teacher makes the learning process become teacher-centered. This research refers to several problem formulations such as, is there any difference students' critical thinking ability between pretest and posttest while doing treatment by using problem based learning model in experimental class with the control class by using conventional learning model. This study aims to know, analyze and evaluate the differences of students’ critical thinking skills by using problem based learning model and conventional models. This study uses a quasi-experimental method with quantitative approach using Nonequivalent (Pretest-Posttest) Control-Group Design. The data collection technique used in this study is using the test. The data analysis technique is done by independent t-test sample. Moreover, this research shows the significant differences if seen from the average of percentage of experiment class; prettest is 21,31% while posttest is 33,67%. The result of pretest control class is 18,92% and posttest is 26,10%. The results of this research give the recommendation for teachers and next researchers to apply problem based learning model to enhance critical thinking ability of students. In addition, problem based learning model is also expected to encourage students to be able to solve problems encountered in everyday life, especially in social studies.
