Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh fakta belum optimalnya kemampuan berpikir reflektif matematis siswa SMP. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah: (1) mengetahui apakah peningkatan kemampuan berpikir reflektif matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan metode IMPROVE lebih tinggi secara signifikan daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran konvensional atau tidak; (2) mengetahui respon siswa terhadap pembelajaran matematika dengan metode IMPROVE. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitiannya adalah desain kelompok kontrol non-ekivalen. Penelitian ini dilakukan terhadap dua kelas dari sembilan kelas di salah satu SMP di kota Bandung. Satu kelas sebagai kelas eksperimen mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan metode IMPROVE dan satu kelas sebagai kelas kontrol mendapatkan pembelajaran secara konvensional. Adapun data penelitian ini diperoleh melalui tes kemampuan berpikir reflektif matematis siswa dan angket. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) peningkatan kemampuan berpikir reflektif matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan metode IMPROVE lebih tinggi secara signifikan daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran konvensional; (2) siswa memberikan respon positif terhadap pembelajaran matematika menggunakan metode IMPROVE;--- The background of this research was derived from the fact that junior high school students’ mathematical reflective thinking abilities were not optimal yet. This research is aimed to: (1) know whether the enhancement of reflective thinking abilities of students who have learned through IMPROVE method was significantly higher than students who have learned through conventional learning or not; (2) know students’ response towards IMPROVE method in mathematics learning. The method is used on of this research was quasi-experimental with nonequivalent control group design. This research was conducted on two classes of nine available classes in one of junior high school in Bandung. One class was considered as experimental group that have learned through IMPROVE method and another class was considered as control group that have learned through conventional learning. The data were gathered from mathematical reflective thinking test and questionnaires. The results were: (1) the enhancement mathematical reflective thinking ability of students who have learned through IMPROVE method was significantly higher than students who have learned through conventional learning; (2) students gave positive response towards IMPROVE method in mathematics learning
