Abstract

Pembelajaran yang telah diterapkan pada saat ini di dalam kelas belum menunjukkan adanya tahapan-tahapan aktivitas pembelajaran penalaran. Untuk itu dibutuhkan penelitian terhadap reasoning skill (kemampuan penalaran) siswa di sekolah. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mendeskripsikan profil kemampuan penalaran siswa terutama kemampuan berargumen pada pembelajaran biologi kelas XI SMA di dua sekolah wilayah Kota Bandung, Jawa Barat. Pengukuran kemampuan penalaran dilakukan pada setiap elemen kemampuan argumentasi. Kemampuan argumentasi siswa diukur dengan pre-test, post-test dan wawancara pada pembelajaran biologi yaitu materi sistem indra, sistem hormon dan sistem reproduksi. Hasil post-test dan wawancara siswa menunjukkan bahwa ketercapaian elemen-elemen argumentasi siswa rendah terutama pada elemen ”advance” dan elemen ”counter alternate/critique” baik pada materi sistem indra, sistem hormon maupun sistem reproduksi di kedua sekolah. Namun, kedua sekolah memiliki perbedaan hasil pencapaian setiap elemen kemampuan argumentasi pada setiap materi pembelajaran. Hasil observasi aktivitas pembelajaran menunjukkan bahwa guru belum menerapkan seluruh tahapan aktivitas reasoning skill dalam pembelajaran di kelas. Tahapan aktivitas pembelajaran hanya terbatas pada aktivitas pembelajaran ”generating reasons” dan ”elaborating reasons”. Iklim belajar di sekolah, pembiasaan pembelajaran di kelas, gaya pengajaran guru dan gaya belajar siswa merupakan beberapa faktor yang memungkinkan memengaruhi hasil penelitian ini. Hasil observasi terhadap aktivitas pembelajaran memiliki kecenderungan hubungan dengan hasil pencapaian elemen reasoning skill siswa.;---Nowadays, learning activity in class has not shown any reasoning activity stages. So, there is a need to conduct a study regarding students’ reasoning skill at school. This research was done to describe students’ reasoning skill profile especially argumentive skill in 11th grades biology class at two high schools in Bandung City, West Java. Reasoning skill was assessed by pre-test, post-test, and interview in biology class on sense system, hormone system, and reproductive system concepts. Students’ post-test and interview results shows that students’ argumentive element achievement are low especially in “advance” element and “counter alternate/critique” element wether in sense system, hormone system, or reproductive systemat both schools. But there is achievment difference between the schools on each argumentive skills element in each concept. Learning activity observation reveals that teachers has not applied all of the reasoning skill activity stages in learning process. Learning activity stages are limited on “generating reasons” and “elaborating reasons” learning activity. Learning climate, learning habit, teaching style and students’ learning style are some factors which possibly influence the study results. Observation result tends to related on the students’ reasoning skill element achievement.
