Abstract
Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi dengan ditemukannya permasalahan yang terjadi di kelas VIII-H SMPN 29 Bandung. Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah rendahnya partisipasi belajar siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS. Sebagai upaya untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut, penulis menggunakan snowball throwing untuk meningkatkan partisipasi belajar. Pemilihan model pembelajaran ini dikarenakan snowball throwing dapat menjadi sarana alternative bagi guru dalam melaksanakan pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan partisipasi siswa yang dipadukan dengan permainan imajinatif. Sehingga siswa dapat aktif dan terlibat langsung dalam pembelajaran, serta didukung pula dengan suasana belajar yang menyenangkan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) dengan model Kemmis dan Taggart. Indikator yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu: kegiatan visual, kegiatan lisan, kegiatan mendengarkan, kegiatan menulis, dan kegiatan mental. Pelaksanaan kegiatan belajar menggunakan snowball throwing untuk meningkatkan partisipasi belajar siswa dapat dikatakan berhasil. Hasil partisipasi siswa dapat dilihat dari peningkatan siklus I-III dari kategori cukup, baik, menjadi sangat baik. Kesimpulannya, penggunaan snowball throwing dalam pembelajaran IPS dapat meningkatkan partisipasi belajar siswa. ;---The background of this research with the discovery of the problems that occur in class VIII-H of SMPN 29 Bandung. The problems in this research are the low participation of students in social studies learning. As an attempt to overcome these problems, the writer used snowball throwing to increase student participation. Selection of this model because snowball throwing can be an alternative for teachers in implementing the learning to increase student participation, combined with imaginative play. So that students can actively and directly involved in learning, and supported also by learning fun. The research method used is classroom action research with a model Kemmis and Taggart. The indicators used in this study are: visual activity, speaking activity, listening activity, writing activity, and mental activity. Implementation of learning activities using snowball throwing to increase students' participation was successfull. The results of the students participation can be seen from the increasing participation of the cycle I-III with the sequent result. As a conclusion, the application of snowball throwing in social studies learning can improve students' participation.
