Abstract

Komunikasi merupakan kemampuan dasar yang harus dimiliki oleh setiap manusia. Melalui komunikasi, seseorang dapat berhubungan dengan yang lainnya. Seorang anak deafblind terlihat introvert dan terisolasi, karena kurangnya kemampuan untuk berkomunikasi dengan lingkungannya secara bermakna. Salah satu strategi visual untuk mengekspresikan diri mereka dengan penerapan Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), yang merupakan program komunikasi alternatif dan augmentatif (AAC) untuk mengajar keterampilan komunikasi fungsional, seperti meminta dan mengomentari bagi penyandang disabilitas yang mengalami hambatan komunikasi verbal. Penelitian ini bertujua nuntuk meningkatkan keterampilan komunikasi anak deafblind melalui penerapan PECS. Berdasarkan studi lapangan ditemukan satu-satunya siswa MDVI yang mengalami hambatan penglihatan (low vision) disertai hambatan pendengaran, hal ini membingungkan guru karena mereka tidak memiliki pengetahuan dan keterampilan untuk menanganinya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian eksperimen subjek tunggal (SSR) desain A-B-A.Subjek penelitian RF(11 tahun 2 bulan) seoranganak deafblind yang mengalami hambatan dalam komunikasi verbal, bentuk komunikasi yang sering muncul adalah RF menarik-narik tangan guru maupun orangtua. Hal ini sering menimbulkan kesalahpahaman mitra komunikasi dalam menanggapi bentuk komunikasi yang dilakukan RF. Akibatnya RF marah dengan perilaku berguling-guling di lantai, memukul telinganya sendiri sambil berteriak, “aaaaa…..”.Rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini, “Apakah penerapan PECS dapat meningkatkan keterampilan komunikasi anak deafblind kelas III di SLB-A Pembina Tingkat Nasional Jakarta?”.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terjadi peningkatan mean pada target behavior, sebelu mintervensi rata-rata terjadinya perilaku sasaran sebanyak 5 (lima) kali,setelah intervensi rata-rata terjadinya perilaku sasaran 24 (duapuluhempat) kali. Hal ini membuktikan bahwa penerapan PECS dapat meningkatkan keterampilan komunikasi anak deafblind. --- Communication is a basic skill to be possessed by every human. Through the communication, one can relate to others. A deafblind child seen introvert and isolated, due to the lack of ability to communication with the environment significantly. One of the visual strategies to express theirselves with the implementation of the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), that is an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) program used to teach functional communication skills, such as requesting and commenting skills for disabilities that have verbal communication disability. The objective of this research is to improve the communication skills of children with deafblind through PECS implementation. Based on survey founded that the only MDVI’student with visual impairment (low vision) and hearing impairment, there is confusion among the teachers of the school to teach the child as they have no knowledge and skills to treat him. The methode of this experimental research is using single subject research (SSR) design A-B-A. The research subject is RF (11 years 2 months) children with deafblind who has obstacles in verbal communication. Kind of communication often appears that RF pulls teacher’s and parent’s hand. This is often miscommunication with partner. RF’s response did to communication. As a result RF angry with the behavior of rolling around on the floor, hitting his own ears while shouting,’ aaaaa….” The problem role of this research is , “Can the implementation of PECS improve the communication skills of children with deafblind third level in SLB-A Pembina Tingkat Nasional Jakarta?”. The results of the research showed that increase in mean on the target behavior before the intervention average occurance of the target behavior as much as 5 times, after the intervention average occurance of the target behavior 24 times. This proves that the implementation of PECS can improve the communication skills of children with deafblind.
