Abstract
Untuk meningkatkan literasi sains siswa Indonesia, diperlukan inovasi-inovasi khususnya pada pembelajaran IPA. Salah satu inovasi yang dapat dilakukan adalah pengembangan bahan ajar. Dalam penelitian ini bahan ajar dikembangkan melalui proses rekonstruksi, dimana struktur konten untuk pengajaran dibangun dengan memperhatikan tujuan pendidikan, dideskripsikan secara hati-hati, dan dihubungkan dengan konteks dalam kehidupan nyata. Salah satu konten sains yang sangat dekat dengan konteks dalam kehidupan nyata adalah zat aditif makanan. Zat aditif makanan dapat digunakan dalam pembelajaran IPA sebagai Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) yang kontroversial. Materi ini sangat menarik untuk didiskusikan di dalam kelas. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode R&D yang dimodifikasi dengan tiga tahapan yaitu penelitian dan pengumpulan informasi awal, perencanaan dan pengembangan produk yang mengadopsi model of educational reconstruction serta uji coba terbatas. Bahan ajar dengan konteks SSI pada materi zat aditif makanan yang telah dikembangkan memiliki beberapa karakteristik diantaranya, dirancang berbasis pembelajaran SSI, setiap uraian dalam tema (sub bab) dikemas oleh konteks, terdiri dari halaman muka, struktur pendahuluan, bagian akhir, daftar bacaan tambahan, dan dilengkapi dengan panduan penggunaan bahan ajar untuk guru. Hasil validasi dan penilaian terhadap bahan ajar menunjukkan bahan ajar sudah layak dan memenuhi syarat untuk digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran IPA di kelas VIII SMP. Hasil uji coba terbatas menunjukkan bahwa bahan ajar memiliki pengaruh yang besar dan dapat meningkatkan literasi sains siswa baik pada aspek kompetensi maupun sikap. Tanggapan siswa menunjukkan bahan ajar dengan konteks SSI pada materi zat aditif makanan mudah dipahami dan memenuhi harapan belajar siswa.;---Improving scientific literacy of Indonesian students is needed through innovations on the science education. One of innovation that can be done is the development of teaching material. In this study, teaching material were developed through reconstruction process, structure of content for learning was built with attention educational aims, described carefully and linked to the context in the real life. One of science content that very close with context in the real life is food additives. Food additives can be used in science learning as a controversial socio-scientific issues (SSI). This theme is very interesting to be discussed in the class. This study was conducted with R&D modified method consists of three steps i.e. research and information collecting, planning and develop preliminary form of product which adopt model of educational reconstruction, and preliminary field testing. Teaching material with SSI context on food additives content has been developed with the characteristics i.e. designed based on SSI learning, every description in theme was packed by context, consist of cover, introduction structure, latter part, additional reading lists and eqquiped a guide to use teaching material for teachers. The validation and assessment of teaching material indicated the teaching material has already worthy and qualified to use in science learning process of 8th junior high school. The preliminary field testing result shows that teaching material has great influence to improving students’ scientific literacy for both competencies and attitude aspects. The students’ response shows that teaching materials with SSI context on food additives was easy to understand and fulfilled students learning expectation.
