    Abstract

This study aims to examine the level and relationship between critical reading and information literacy among elementary school students. Critical reading is defined as the cognitive ability to deeply comprehend, analyze, evaluate, and draw conclusions from textual information. Meanwhile, information literacy encompasses the ability to access various sources of information, evaluate the obtained information, and utilize it accurately. The research employed a quantitative correlational method. The population consisted of sixth-grade students at a public elementary school in Tanjungpandan, Belitung, with a sample of 30 students from the 2024–2025 academic year. Data collection instruments included a critical reading test and an information literacy questionnaire, both of which were validated and tested for reliability. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation techniques to determine the strength of the relationship between variables. The results showed that students' critical reading skills were at a moderate level (60%), with strengths in interpretation, analysis, and evaluation, but weaknesses in applying concepts to develop innovative solutions. Similarly, students' information literacy was also at a moderate level (66.67%), demonstrating proficiency in identifying information needs and utilizing information comprehensively, yet lacking in verifying information accuracy and searching efficiently under time constraints. A strong and statistically significant positive correlation was found between critical reading and information literacy (r = 0.882; sig. = 0.000; α = 0.05), indicating that the higher the students' critical reading skills, the better their information literacy. These findings highlight the interdependent nature of critical reading and information literacy in the development of students’ academic competencies.
