Abstract
Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris siswa di sekolah dasar. Pemilihan metode yang tepat akan membantu siswa meningkatkan hasil belajar dan meminimalisir rasa tidak suka siswa terhadap pembelajaran khususnya bahasa asing. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan alat peraga snake and ladder dalam meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris siswa kelas IV Sekolah Dasar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuasi eksperimen dengan desain nonequivalent control group. Subjek penelitian ini berjumlah 56 siswa kelas IV dengan masing-masing 28 siswa di kelas eksperimen maupun kelas kontrol di SDN 036 Ujungberung. Data yang didapat dalam penelitian ini diperoleh dari hasil pre-test dan post�test siswa kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol serta hasil observasi aktivitas guru dan keterlibatan siswa. Pengolahan data yang digunakan terdiri atas uji normalitas, uji homogenitas, uji paired sample t test, dan uji independent sample t test. Data dianalisis menggunakan bantuan software IBM SPSS 27.0 for windows. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan alat peraga snake and ladder memberikan pengaruh terhadap penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris siswa. Hal tersebut terlihat pada hasil nilai rata-rata post-test yang meningkat menjadi 88,64 dari nilai rata-rata pre-test sebesar 62,54. Hasil analisis menunjukkan nilai Sig. (2-tailed) diperoleh sebesar 0,001 < 0,05 maka Ha diterima, yaitu terdapat pengaruh dari penggunaan alat peraga snake and ladder terhadap peningkatan penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris siswa kelas IV Sekolah Dasar. ------------ This research is based on the low English vocabulary of students in elementary school. Selecting the right method will help students improve learning outcomes and reduce their dislike of learning, especially in foreign languages. This study aimed to determine the effect of using snake and ladder props on improving the mastery of English vocabulary in fourth-grade elementary school students. This research used a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design. The subjects of this study amounted to 56 fourth-grade students, with 28 students each in the experimental and control classes at SDN 036 Ujungberung. The data obtained in this study were obtained from the pre-test and post-test results of experimental and control class students, as well as the results of observations of teacher activity and student involvement. The data processing used consists of a normality test, homogeneity test, paired sample t test, and independent sample t test. The data were analyzed using IBM SPSS 27.0 software for Windows. The results showed that using snake and ladder props affected students' mastery of English vocabulary. This can be seen in the results of the post-test average value, which increased to 88.64 from the pre-test average value of 62.54. The results of the analysis show the value of Sig. (2-tailed) value obtained is 0.001 <0.05, then Ha is accepted, that is, there is an effect of using snake and ladder props on improving the mastery of English vocabulary of fourth-grade elementary school students.
