Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi dengan adanya proses pembelajaran di Sekolah
Dasar Negeri 1 Cibodas Lembang, khususnya pada kelas V A yang siswanya
belum berpartisipasi aktif dalam pembelajaran. Pembelajaran yang berpusat pada
guru menjadikan siswa cenderung bosan dan tidak berpartisipasi aktif.
Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut, peneliti melakukan penelitian tindakan
dengan menerapkan metode discovery untuk meningkatkan partisipasi siswa,
khususnya pada mata pelajaran IPA. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan
kelas yang mengadaptasi model Kemmis dan Mc. Taggart. Metode Penelitian ini
berlangsung selama 2 siklus, dalam setiap siklus terdiri dari 4 tahapan kegiatan,
yaitu tahap perencanaan, tahap pelaksanaan, tahap observasi, dan refleksi. Peneliti
menerapkan prosedur yang harus dilaksanakan dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar
metode discovery, yakni stimulation, problem statement, data collection, data
processing, verification, dan generalization. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah siswa
dapat berpartisipasi aktif dalam pembelajaran, sehingga pembelajaran tidak hanya
berpusat pada guru. Adapun indikator partisipasi dalam penelitian ini adalah
datang ke kelas tepat waktu, memakai pakaian sesuai dengan ketentuan, mematuhi
aturan yang berlaku selama pembelajaran, memperhatikan penjelasan guru,
menyampaikan pertanyaan, menyampaikan pendapat atau sanggahan, mampu
menjawab pertanyaan, mengerjakan tugas dengan baik, mencari jalan
memecahkan masalah, dan mampu bekerjasama dengan baik. Hasil penelitian
yang diperoleh dari setiap siklus menunjukkan presentase partisipasi siswa
mengalami peningkatan, yaitu pada siklus I 66,04% siswa yang berpartisipasi
aktif, dan pada siklus II meningkat menjadi 81,25%. Peningkatan partisipasi siswa
pada penelitian ini adalah 15,21%. Hal tersebut membuktikan bahwa metode
discovery dapat meningkatkan partisipasi siswa, hal tersebut karena metode
discovery memiliki langkah pembelajaran yang terstruktur dan lebih menekankan
siswa untuk menemukan pengetahuannya sendiri dan bukan hanya menerima
transfer pengetahuan dari guru. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, disarankan kepada
guru sekolah yang terkait maupun untuk penelitian berikutnya untuk menerapkan
metode discovery sebagai metode pembelajaran yang dapat meningkatkan
partisipasi siswa.

This research is based on a learning process in the Public Elementary School 1
Cibodas Lembang, especially in the grade V class A where the students have not
participated actively in learning. Teacher-centered learning makes students tend to
get bored and do not participate actively. Based on these problems, reseachers
conducted action research to apply the discovery method to increase the
participation of students, particularly in science subject. This research is a class
act research which adapt the Kemmis and Mc. Taggart model. Methods of the
study lasted for 2 cycles, each cycle consisting of four phases of activity, namely
the planning phase, implementation phase, phase of observation, and reflection.
Researchers also apply the procedures that must be implemented in the teaching
and learning activities of discovery methods, ie, stimulation, problem statement,
the data collection, the data processing, verification, and generalization. The
purpose of this study is that student can actively participate in learing, so that
learning not only centered on the teacher. The indicators of participation in this
research is to come to class on time, dressed in accordance with the provisions,
comply with applicable rules during learning, paying attention to the teacher’s
explanation, asking question, expressing an opinion or a disclaimer, able to
answer question, do a good job, find a way to solve problem, and is able to work
well together. The result obtained from each cycle indicates the percentage of
student participation has incleased, ie 66.04% of student participate actively in the
first cycle, and the second cycle increased to 81.25%. Increased of student
participation in this study is 15.21%. This research proves that the method can
enchance student participation, it is because the method od discovery have
structured learning step and emphasize the student to find his own knowledge and
not just accept the transfer of knowledge from the teacher. Based on these
findings, it is suggested to the teacher or related school to subsequent research to
apply the discovery method as learning method that can improve student
participation.
