Abstract

Matematika merupakan salah satu mata pelajaran yang menjadi sorotan karena dianggap sebagai mata pelajaran yang sulit. Siswa merasa kesulitan dalam menyelesaikan soal berbentuk soal cerita sehingga siswa melakukan kesalahan. Salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi kesalahan siswa adalah kemampuan awal matematis yang berbeda. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kesalahan representasi siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita pada sistem persamaan dan pertidaksamaan linear ditinjau dari kemampuan awal matematis siswa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah studi kasus dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Partisipan penelitian terdiri dari siswa kelas 10 di salah satu SMA negeri di Kota Bandung yang telah mempelajari materi sistem persamaan dan pertidaksamaan linear. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan mengamati, mewawancarai, dan menganalisis pekerjaan siswa. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa dengan kemampuan awal matematis tinggi berdasarkan prosedur Newman melakukan kesalahan comprehension, process skill, dan encoding. Mereka memiliki pemahaman yang kuat terhadap konsep sistem persamaan dan pertidaksamaan linear, dapat menerapkan materi tersebut dalam situasi nyata, akan tetapi melupakan hal-hal kecil yang seharusnya penting seperti penulisan diketahui, ditanya dan kesimpulan jawaban akhir. Siswa dengan kemampuan awal matematis sedang melakukan kesalahan comprehension, transformation, process skill, dan encoding. Siswa dengan kemampuan awal matematis rendah melakukan kesalahan transformation dan process skill dikarenakan kurang pemahaman akan materi tersebut. Mereka memiliki pemahaman yang terbatas pada konsep, kesulitan dalam menggambar dan menentukan grafik dengan benar, dan kurang mampu menerapkan materi tersebut dalam situasi nyata.

Mathematics is one of the subjects that is in the spotlight because it is considered a difficult subject. Students find it difficult to solve story problems so students make mistakes. One of the factors that influences student errors is different initial mathematical abilities. This research aims to describe students' representation errors in solving story problems on systems of linear equations and inequalities in terms of students' mathematical prior knowledge. The research method used is a case study with a qualitative approach. The research participants consisted of 10th grade students in one of the public high schools in Bandung City who had studied material on systems of linear equations and linear inequalities. This research was conducted by observing, interviewing, and analyzing student work. The results of this study indicate that students with high mathematical prior knowledge are based on procedures Newman make mistakes in comprehension, process skill, and encoding types. They have a strong understanding of the concept of systems of linear equations and linear inequalities, can apply the material in real situations, but forget small things that should be important such as writing down information, asking questions and concluding the final answer. The students with mediocre mathematical prior knowledge make mistakes in comprehension, transformation, process skill, and encoding types. The students with low mathematical prior knowledge make mistakes in transformation and process skill types due to lack of understanding of the material. They have limited understanding of the concepts, have difficulty drawing and defining graphs correctly, and are less able to apply the material in real situations.
