Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peningkatan keterampilan berpikir kritis dan self confidence siswa setelah diberi perlakuan dengan model Problem Based Learning berbantuan Probing Prompting (PBL-PP) pada mateiri suhu dan kalor. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode campuran dengan desain penelitian embedded experimental model. Sampel pada penelitian ini sebanyak 68 siswa yang terbagi ke dalam kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol yang dipilih dengan cara purposive sampling. Data penelitian ini diperoleh melalui studi pendahuluan terkait profil siswa sebelum perlakuan, pemberian tes keterampilan berpikir kritis sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan, data lembar observasi kegiatan pembelajaran, data angket self confidence dan angket respons siswa. Data kuantitatif yang sudah terkumpul dianalisis menggunakan persamaan statistik untuk pengujian hipotesis sedangkan pada data kualitatif, sebagian data dihitung persentasenya kemudian diinterpretasikan ke dalam kriteria yang telah ditentukan serta data lainnya dianalisis menggunakan model Rasch. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data diperoleh bahwa model pembelajaran yang diterapkan pada kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol berpengaruh terhadap keterampilan berpikir kritis dan self confidence siswa namun perolehan hasil pada kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi dari kelas kontrol. Hal ini dikarenakan model PBL berbantuan probing prompting dapat memfasilitasi para siswa melalui serangkaian pertanyaan sebagai penuntun sehingga dapat merangsang siswa untuk mencari dan menemukan solusi dari suatu permasalahan. Hasil penelitian ini dapat dijadikan sebagai rekomendasi kepada para pengajar untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis dan self confidence siswa. This study aims to analyze the increase of students' critical thinking skills and self-confidence after being treated with the Problem Based Learning model assisted by Probing Prompting (PBL-PP) on temperature and heat materials. The method used in this study is a mixed method with an embedded experimental model research design. The sample in this study were 68 students who were divided into experimental class and control class which were selected by purposive sampling. The research data was obtained through preliminary studies related to student profiles before treatment, giving tests of critical thinking skills before and after treatment, data on observation sheets of learning activities, self-confidence questionnaire data and student response questionnaires. Quantitative data have been collected is analyzed using statistical equations for hypothesis testing while for qualitative data, some of the data is calculated by percentage and then interpreted according to predetermined criteria and other data is analyzed using the Rasch model. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that the learning model applied to the experimental class and control class had an effect on students' critical thinking skills and self-confidence, but the results obtained in the experimental class were higher than the control class. This is because the PBL model assisted by probing prompting can facilitate students through a series of questions as a guide so that can stimulate students to seek and find solutions of a problem. The results of this study can be used as a recommendation for teachers to improve students' critical thinking skills and self-confidence.
