Abstract
Banyak siswa tidak terbiasa memecahkan masalah dengan jenis level soal higher order thinking skill (HOTS). Hal ini mendorong penelitian untuk mengkaji kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa berdasarkan tingkat kategori kemampuannya (tinggi, sedang, dan rendah) pada materi keliling bangun datar persegi. Subjek penelitian merupakan siswa di salah satu Sekolah Dasar di Kota Bandung dengan subjek masing-masing dua orang setiap kategorinya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan wawancara. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan yaitu mereduksi data, menyajikan data, dan menarik kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini berupa (1)Siswa dengan kategori tinggi mampu memahami masalah dengan baik, dan mampu merencanakan penyelesaian masalah dengan sistematis. Akan tetapi, siswa dengan kategori tinggi kurang teliti pada tahap merencanakan penyelesaian masalah dan memeriksa kembali jawaban soal yang dikerjakan. (2)Siswa dengan kategori sedang mampu pada tahap memahami masalah. Akan tetapi, pada tahap merencanakan penyelesaian, menyelesaikan masalah, dan tahap memeriksa kembali jawaban, siswa dengan kategori sedang kurang teliti dalam mengerjakan soal yang dikerjakan. (3)Siswa dengan kategori rendah belum mampu memenuhi setiap indikator pemecahan masalah matematika, serta belum mampu mengerjakan soal yang diberikan dengan baik. (4)Implikasi untuk pembelajaran selanjutnya. This encouraged the author to assess students’ problem solving skills. The purposes of this study were to describe students' problem solving skills based on their categories (high, middle, and low) on the material of rectangular perimeter. The research subjects were students in an Elementary School in Bandung City with two subjects for each category. This study used descriptive method with qualitative research approach. The data collection technique was obtained by testing the problem solving skills and interviewing. The data analysis techniques used were reducing data, describing data, and drawing conclusions. The findings of this study were (1)Students with high category were able to understand the problems well, and were able to plan systematic problem solving. However, students with high category were less careful at the stage of planning problem solving and rechecking the answers which had done. (2)Students with middle category were at the stage of understanding the problem. Yet, at the stage of planning completion, solving the problems, and rechecking the answers, students with middle category were less careful in answering the questions which had done. (3)Students with low category were not able to fulfill the indicators of mathematical problem solving, and were not able in doing the questions given well. (4)Implications for further learning.
