    Abstract

    Mengingat pentingnya kemampuan berargumentasi dan keterampilan komunikasi bagi siswa dalam pembelajaran IPA, maka perlu dicari model pembelajaran yang diharapkan dapat mengembangkan kemampuan argumentasi dan keterampilan komunikasi siswa. Salah satu model pembelajaran yang dapat diterapkan adalah model Argument Based Science Inquiry (ABSI) dengan pendekatan Science Writing Heuristic (SWH). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh gambaran kemampuan berargumentasi dan keterampilan komunikasi siswa SMP pada tema pencemaran lingkungan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian Quasi Eksperimental dengan tipe The Non-Equivalen Pretest-Posttest Design. Subjek penelitian melibatkan siswa SMP kelas VII yang berjumlah 56 siswa. Pada kelas eksperimen diterapkan model pembelajaran ABSI dengan menggunakan pendekatan SWH sementara pada kelas kontrol diterapkan model pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing dengan pendekatan kontekstual. Kedua kelas diberikan pretest dan postest yang sama. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata postest kemampuan berargumentasi di kelas eksperimen sebesar 56,00 sementara di kelas kontrol sebesar 41,00. Nilai rata-rata postest keterampilan komunikasi di kelas eskperimen sebesar sebesar 66,00 sementara di kelas kontrol sebesar 59,00. Peneliti merekomendasikan sebaiknya guru membiasakan siswa melalui adaptasi terhadap proses inkuiri yang dapat mengembangkan kemampuan berargumentasi dan keterampilan komunikasi .-- Given the importance of the ability to argue and communication skills for students in natural science learning, it is necessary to find a learning model that is expected to develop students' argumentation skills and communication skills. One learning model that can be applied is the Argument Based Science Inquiry (ABSI) model with the Science Writing Heuristic (SWH) approach. This study aims to obtain an overview of the ability to argue and communication skills of junior high school students on the theme of environmental pollution. This research is an Quasi Experimental research with the type of Non-Equivalent Pretest-Posttest Design. The research subjects involved class VII junior high school students totaling 56 students. In the experimental class the ABSI learning model was applied using the SWH approach while in the control class applied the guided inquiry learning model with a contextual approach. Both classes are given the same pretest and posttest. The results showed that the average value of postest ability to argue in the experimental class was 56.00 while in the control class was 41.00. The average posttest score of communication skills in the experimental class is 66.00 while in the control class is 59.00. Researchers recommend that teachers familiarize students through adaptation to the inquiry process that can develop the ability to argue and communication skills.
