Abstract

Terdapat 4 keterampilan yang dituntut dimiliki oleh manusia di abad 21 ini, salah satunya adalah keterampilan berkomunikasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan keterampilan komunikasi siswa SMP dengan pembelajaran IPA berbasis STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Penelitian ini melibatkan sampel sebanyak 38 orang siswa kelas VIII di salah satu SMP Negeri di Kota Bandung. Keterampilan komunikasi siswa ini dibagi ke dalam komunikasi sains lisan dan komunikasi sains secara tertulis. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui proses presentasi, pengerjaan soal uraian dan didukung oleh pembuatan laporan produk yang dinilai berdasarkan rubrik yang telah ditentukan. Penelitian ini akan di analisis berdasarkan 3 domain yaitu pengetahuan, sikap, dan kompetensi baik untuk komunikasi lisan maupun tulisan. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa pada keterampilan komunikasi lisan seluruh aspek mengalami peningkatan yang berada pada kategori sedang dengan nilai <g>; a. pengetahuan: aspek Organization 0.59, aspek Delivery 0.58, aspek Conclusion 0.31; b. sikap: aspek Eye Contact 0.31, aspek Responsiveness 0.45; c. kompetensi: aspek Multimedia Support 0.61. Sementara itu, pada keterampilan komunikasi secara tertulis yang dinilai melalui soal uraian ditemukan bahwa seluruh siswa mengalami peningkatan pada kategori sedang pada setiap aspek dengan nilai <g>; a. pengetahuan: aspek Depth of Understanding 0.64, aspek Clarity of Explanation 0.68; b. kompetensi: aspek Integration of Various Branches 0.55, aspek Mechanics of Writing 0.50. Kemudian, skor rata – rata untuk pada penilaian laporan yaitu; a. pengetahuan: aspek Organization 2.66, aspek Delivery 1.92, aspek Conclusion 1.45; b. kompetensi: aspek Analysis 1.79, aspek Results 1.63, aspek Format 2.50, aspek Style 1.95. Berdasarkan data tersebut, diketahui bahwa pembelajaran IPA berbasis STEM sudah dapat meningkatkan keterampilan komunikasi siswa namun masih terdapat hal yang perlu dioptimalkan seperti pada aspek Conclusion dan Eye Contact. ;--There are 4 skills that is required by humans in the 21st century and one of them is communication skill. This study aims to know the increasement of junior high school students communication skill with a STEM-based science learning. Sample of this study were 38 junior high school student in Bandung. This student communication skills are divided into oral communication and written communication. The data were collected through the process of presentation, answering an essay and making reports assessed based on the rubric that has been determined. This study will be analyzed based on 3 domains which are knowledge, attitude, and compentence for both oral and written communication. Results showed that on oral communication skills every aspects went through a medium categorized increasement with <g> value; a. knowledge: Organization 0.59, Delivery 0.58, Conclusion 0.31; b. attitute: Eye Contact 0.31, Responsiveness 0.45; c. competence: Multimedia Support 0.61. Meanwhile on written communication that assessed based on answering an essay the result also showed that every aspects is going through a medium categorized increasement with <g> value; a. knowledge: Depth of Understanding 0.64, Clarity of Explanation 0.68; b. competence: Integration of Various Branches 0.55, Mechanics of Writing 0.50. Last, the average score for every aspects in the report are; a. knowledge: Organization 2.66, Delivery 1.92, Conclusion 1.45; b. competence: Analysis 1.79, Results 1.63, Format 2.50, Style 1.95. Based on the data, STEM-based Science Learning could increase the student communication skills but there are some things that need to be optimalized in some aspects such as Conlusion and Eye Contact.
