Abstract

Sehingga, model pembelajaran problem based learning (PBL) dengan strategi reading infusion (RI) efektif untuk meningkatkan literasi saintifik siswa.-- Scientific literacy has become a major goal in science education. However, scientific literacy of high school students in Indonesia are low. This is shown from PISA’ results which Indonesia are ranked below and get scores that are below the average of PISA participating countries' scores and the results of field studies in a high school showed that scientific literacy of students are low. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of problem based learning (PBL) learning models with reading infusion (RI) strategies to improve the scientific literacy of high school students. Scientific literacy in this study adopted PISA 2015. The research method used was quasi experimental method with nonequivalent pretest and posttest design. Participants were 44 students of class XI Science in Bandung consisting of 22 students in the experimental class and 22 students in the control class. The instrument uses scientific literacy test instruments that have been developed consisting of test instruments in essay for competency and knowledge domains and a non-test instrument in questionnaire for attitude domain. Improvement of scientific literacy of students who use PBL learning models with RI strategies is higher than students who use PBL learning models without RI but both are in the medium category. There are significant differences in the scientific literacy increase between the experimental class compared to the control class with 95% confidence level. Effect size test show that the PBL model with the RI strategy has a large impact on improving scientific literacy. The increase for each domain is competence, knowledge and attitude in the experimental class is higher than the control class. There are significant differences in literacy improvement in each domain with 95% confidence level. Based on the effect size test, it was found that PBL learning model with RI strategy has large impact on improving scientific literacy in each domain. Thus, problem based learning (PBL) learning models with reading infusion (RI) strategies are effective to improve students' scientific literacy.
