Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya empati karena mampu membantu individu
menyesuaikan diri dengan lingkungannya dan mencegah individu melakukan tindakan
agresif, dan membuat individu mengontrol perilakunya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk
mengetahui efektivitas program dengan menguji hipotesis bahwa program bimbingan
kelompok dalam upaya meningkatkan empati pada siswa. Populasi penelitian ini adalah
siswa kelas VIII SMPN 12 Bandung dengan jumlah 208 siswa. Alasan pemilihan lokasi
penelitian ini adalah banyaknya siswa yang memiliki empati kategori rendah. Hal ini
ditandai dengan adanya kasus bullying antar siswa, terutama pada siswa yang kurang
mampu dan kurang pintar. Selain itu hanya 2% siswa kelas VIII yang memiliki empati
dengan kategori tinggi, sementara 80% siswa memiliki empati kategori sedang dan 18%
siswa kelas VIII memiliki empati kategori rendah. Penelitian ini dilakukan melalui
pendekatan kuantitatif. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kuasi eksperimen
dengan non equivalent group design. Teknik pengambilan sampel pada penelitian ini
adalah non probabilitas dengan teknik homogenous sampling, yakni strategi pemilihan
sampel purposif dengan memilih individu tertentu atas dasar kesamaan karakteristik.
Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah T Test Paired Sampling dan T test Independent
Sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bimbingan kelompok melalui teknik
menulis ekspresif kurang efektif meningkatkan empati siswa jika dibandingkan dengan
bimbingan kelompok melalui teknik diskusi kelompok. Namun begitu, bimbingan
kelompok melalui teknik menulis ekspresif efektif untuk meningkatkan empati jika
dilaksanakan secara tunggal.;--This research is motivated by the importance of empathy because it can help individuals adjust to their environment and prevent individuals from taking aggressive actions, and make the individual control his behavior. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the program by testing the hypothesis that the group guidance program in an effort to improve empathy in students. The population of this study are students of class VIII SMPN 12 Bandung with the number of 208 students. The reason for choosing the location of this research is the number of students who have low category empathy. This is marked by the case of bullying among students, especially in the less able and less intelligent students. In addition, only 2% of grade VIII students had empathy with high category, while 80% of students had moderate category empathy and 18% of grade VIII students had low category empathy. This research is done through quantitative approach. The research method used is quasi experimental method with non equivalent group design. Sampling technique in this research is non probability with homogenous sampling technique, that is choosing purposive sampling strategy by selecting certain individual on the basis of characteristic similarity. Data analysis technique used is T Test Paired Sampling and T test Independent Sampling. The results show that group guidance through expressive writing techniques is less effective in enhancing students' empathy when compared to group guidance through group discussion techniques. However, group guidance through expressive writing techniques is effective for improving empathy if implemented singly
