Abstract

The ability to solve mathematical problems and self confidence are an important ability to have students, but the reality shows that the three things are still not in accordance with what is expected. One of the learning models considered to improve the problem solving ability of mathematics and self confidence of students is Model-Eliciting Activities (MEAs). The aim of this study is to assess the achievement and enhancement of students’ mathematical problem solving, and self confidence that obtain Model-Eliciting Activities (MEAs) and conventional model. This research is a quasi-experimental research with non-equivalent control group design. Implementation of this research was conducted on the students of class VIII in one of High School in Rantauprapat. The research instruments used include mathematical problem solving test, mathematical self-confidence attitude scale, observation guidelines and interview sheet. Data analysis was performed by using independent sample t-test for parametric test and Mann-Whitney U test for non-parametric test. The result of this research are: (1) The achievement of mathematical problem solving ability of Model Eliciting Activities class students was significantly higher than conventional class students, (2) enhancement of problem solving ability of class students that obtained Model-Eliciting Activities (MEAs) was significantly higher than conventional class students reviewed based on medium and low prior knowledge students, (3) achievement and enhancement of mathematical self-confidence of students who get the Model Eliciting Activities (MEAs) was significantly higher than conventional class students
