Abstract

This research is based on the lack of speaking skill of the students at one of the elementary school in Bandung. The case is shown from the observation result at the third grade of elementary school students seen from teachin learning activity, many students who have lack of speaking when they see teacher delivers teaching, discussing, answering, questioning and presenting individual task. The students lack of ability in deliver an idea, those are knowledge and thinking in the case of teacher's instuction or individual wish. If the students can't involve deliver their knowledge and thinking in the teaching learning process it means that they also can't speak well to tell their idea. The purpose of this research is to describe student's speaking skill by using Talking Stick type to the students of third grade elementary school. This research done by using. Action class research (PTK) according to Kemmis and McTaggart with two cycles and every cycle consist of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The result of research at cycle I with the percentage of completeness is only 53% continue at cycle II got significant increasing becomes 100%. Thus, it can conclude that the application of Talking Stick Type can increase speaking skill of third grade of the elementary school students.---- Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya keterampilan berbicara siswa di salah satu sekolah dasar kota Bandung. Hal tersebut ditandai dari hasil observasi pada kelas III SD yang dilihat dari kegiatan belajar mengajar siswa masih banyak yang kurang terampil berbicara saat menyimak guru menyampaikan pembelajaran, berdiskusi, tanya jawab, dan mempresentasikan tugas individu. Siswa kurang menyampaikan gagasan berupa pengetahuan dan pemikiran yang dimilikinya atas intruksi guru maupun kehendak pribadinya. Apabila siswa tidak mampu terlibat menyampaikan pengetahuan dan pemikirannya saat proses kegiatan belajar dan mengajar, maka dengan begitu siswa juga tidak mampu dalam berbicara dengan terampil untuk menuangkan gagasannya tersebut. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan keterampilan berbicara siswa dengan menggunakan Tipe Talking Stick pada siswa kelas III Sekolah Dasar. Peneitian ini dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) menurut Kemmis dan Mc Taggart dengan dua siklus dan setiap siklusnya terdiri dari perencanaan (planning), tindakan (acting), pengamatan (observing), dan refleksi (reflecting). Hasil penelitian pada siklus I dengan presentase ketuntasannya hanya 53%, dilanjut pada siklus II mengalami peningkatan yang signifikan menjadi 100%. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan Tipe Talking Stick dapat meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa kelas III Sekolah Dasar.
