Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya kemampuan siswa dalam memahami isi bacaan, mengidentifikasi unsur-unsur bacaan dan penggunaan metode pembelajaran yang konvensional. Hal ini ditunjukan berdasarkan data awal ketuntasan belajar siswa sebesar 47,40% dengan ketuntasan minimum (75). Sehingga penelitian ini difokuskan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa dengan menerapkan metode SQ4R (Survey, Question, Read, Record, Recite And Review). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui proses pelaksanaan dan peningkatan kemampuan membaca pemahaman dengan menerapkan metode SQ4R. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilakukan sebanyak dua siklus, dimana setiap siklus terdiri atas tahapan perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi dan refleksi. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik observasi, tes, dokumentasi dan wawancara. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas IV di salah satu Sekolah Dasar di Kota Bandung yang berjumlah 38 siswa. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan adanya peningkatan, nilai rata-rata pada siklus I sebesar 78,1%, kemudian pada siklus II meningkat menjadi 85,6%. Begitupula pada presentase (%) ketuntasan belajar siswa setiap siklusnya, pada pra siklus sebesar 47,4%, pada siklus I menjadi 71,8% dan pada siklus II meningkat menjadi 87,9%. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, maka peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa metode SQ4R dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, direkomendasikan metode SQ4R dapat terus diterapkan dalam kegiatan pembelajaran. This research starts with the swallow ability of the students to understanding or identifying a reading text. The reason is the method, they use the conventional method. Based on the data, the student only reaches their completed study in 47.40%, with completed score minimum is 75. Another method applied, SQ4R method (Survey, Question, Read, Record, Recite and Review). The aim of this research is focusing in the review of process implementation, and the impact of the method in increasing the student ability in text reading base on SQ4R method. This research has two times acts in class, which every act has a planning process, implementation process, observation process, and reflective process. On the other hand, this research collects the data using observation technique, sampling test, documentation, and interview. The subject of this research is 4th grade elementary school students in one of school in Bandung which has 38 students inside the class. The result shows that in the first act, the students achieve 78,1 % understanding and 85,6 in the 2nd Act. And their completed study score increasing from 47,4 % in conventional method became 71,8% in 1st act and 87,9 % in 2nd act. Base on this, the SQ4R method proved to increasing student understanding in reading text. In conclusion, SQ4R method is recommended to improved student understanding, and suggested to applied in every educational studies.
