Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh potensialnya pembelajaran teks eksposisi serta keanekaragaman budaya di Indonesia yang dapat berpeluang menciptakan konflik dalam kehidupan masyarakat yang plural. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan kemampuan menulis teks eksposisi siswa di kelas eksperimen yang menerapkan metode two stay two stray berbasis pendidikan multikultural dan kelas kontrol di kelas VIII SMP Negeri 1 Siantan Kabupaten Mempawah. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode eksperimen kuasi dengan Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 1 Siantan dengan sampel kelas VIIIA dan VIIIE. Instrumen pengumpul data yang dipakai dalam penelitian ini adalah tes penilaian kinerja hasil, lembar observasi, dan lembar angket. Setelah diberikan perlakuan sebanyak lima kali pertemuan, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hipotesis yang menyatakan bahwa metode two stay two stray berbasis pendidikan multikultural efektif dalam pembelajaran menulis teks eksposisi, dapat diterima. Bukti keefektifan dari metode tersebut adalah meningkatnya kemampuan menulis siswa pada tiap aspek penilaian, baik secara kuantitatif maupun kualitatif. Selain itu, dari hasil observasi diketahui bahwa siswa menjadi lebih pandai menyampaikan ide atau gagasan mereka dalam kegiatan diskusi maupun presentasi. Siswa juga makin menunjukkan sikap positif dalam merespons berbagai macam perbedaan yang mereka temui. Kenaikan nilai rata-rata kelas eksperimen adalah 20 poin, sedangkan pada kelas kontrol sebanyak 14 poin. Selisih peningkatan nilai rata-tara tersebut membuktikan bahwa metode two stay two stray berbasis pendidikan multikultural lebih efektif dalam pembelajaran menulis teks eksposisi.;--- This study is back grounded by the potential of exposition text learning and culture diversity in Indonesia which can create the conflict in plural community life. This study aims to find out the differences of students’ writing ability in exposition text between experiment classroom which applying two stay two stray method based on multicultural education and control classroom in students of class VIII SMPN 1 Siantan, Mempawah Regency. The method of study used is quasi experimental with Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population of this study are all students of class VIII SMPN 1 Siantan with sample are class VIIIA and class VIIIE. The instrument to collect the data used in this study is result performance assessment test, observation sheet, and questionnaire sheet. After given treatment for five time sessions, the result of study shows that hypothesis which state that two stay two stray method based on multicultural education is effective in exposition text writing learning, can be accepted. The evident of effectiveness from this method is students’ writing ability which is enhanced in each aspect of assessment, both quantitatively and qualitatively. In addition, it is known from observation result that students become more able to deliver their idea or opinion in discussion and presentation activity. Students also more show positive attitude in responding various kind of difference they find. The increase of mean score for experiment class is 20 point, while in control class is 14 point. The difference of mean score increase prove that two stay two stray method based on multicultural education is more effective in exposition text writing learning.
