    Abstract

    Feedback provision is a necessity for students in the process of writing. This research aims to discover the use of indirect feedback to reduce students’ grammatical errors in writing an analytical exposition text. Furthermore, this study was conducted to find out students’ response toward indirect feedback given as treatment. The study implemented a quasi- experimental design. The sample of this study involves 60 students as control group and experimental group. Students’ writing and questionnaire were used to obtain the data in this study. Afterwards, one way analysis of variance test in SPSS 20.0 was conducted to analyze the data. Based on the statistical result, after indirect feedback was implemented on students’ writing, the level of significance is .000 or < 0.05, thereby the null hypothesis was rejected. Therefore, the use of indirect feedback reduces the number of grammatical errors made by students in writing an analytical exposition text. In addition, from the questionnaires’ result show 90.89% students gave positive response toward indirect feedback.;--- Umpan balik merupakan suatu kebutuhan bagi siswa dalam proses menulis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penggunaan umpan balik tidak langsung dalam mengurangi kesalahan gramatikal yang dilakukan oleh siswa dalam menulis sebuah teks eksposisi. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga dilaksanakan untuk mengetahui respon siswa terhadap penggunaan umpan balik tidak langsung yang digunakan dalam proses penelitian. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain quasi eksperimental. Sampel penelitian ini melibatkan 60 siswa, baik sebagai kelas control maupun kelas eksperimental. Selanjutnya, data penelitian diperoleh dari teks eksposisi yang telah ditulis oleh siswa serta kuesioner yang digunakan sebagai instrumen. Kemudian, one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) tes dalam SPSS 20.0 digunakan untuk menganalisis data yang telah diperoleh. Berdasarkan analisis secara statistik, setelah umpan balik tidak langsung diterapkan dalam tulisan siswa, tingkat signifikansi kesalahan grammatikal siswa berada pada level .000 atau < 0.05, ini menunjukan bahwa null hypothesis ditolak. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa feedback tidak langsung dapat mengurangi jumlah kesalahan gramatikal yang dibuat oleh siswa dalam menulis teks eksposisi. Selain itu, hasil kuesioner menunjukkan bahwa 90.89% siswa memberikan respon positif terhadap penggunaan umpan balik tidak langsung.
