Abstract
Novel Max Havelaar karya Multatuli dan Bumi Manusia karya Pramoedya Ananta Toer adalah karya sastra dunia. Penelitian ini bertujuan (1) mengetahui dan mendeskripsikan struktur tekstual dan makna novel Max Havelaar, (2) mengetahui dan mendeskripsikan struktur tekstual dan makna novel Bumi Manusia, (3) mendeskripsikan hasil perbandingan struktur tekstual dan makna antara novel Max Havelaar dengan Bumi Manusia, (4) menyusun bahan ajar teks sastra di SMA dengan menggunakan teks informasi novel Max Havelaar dan Bumi Manusia. Objek penelitian ini adalah novel Max Havelaar dan novel Bumi Manusia. Melalui paradigma penelitian kualitatif, penelitian ini dilakukan menggunakan metode deskriptif analisis komparatif dan pendekatan objektif yang didasakan pada karya sastra itu sendiri. Teknik pengumpulan data penelitian ini menggunakan studi kepustakaan. Berkaitan dengan langkah kerja sastra bandingan, penelitian menerapkan analisis struktural dan kemudian menerapkan teori semiotik Roland Barthes untuk mengungkap makna yang terkandung di kedua novel. Berdasarkan hasil analisis perbandingan struktur tekstual didapatkan deskripsi perbedaan dan persamaan dari dua sumber data sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa novel Max Havelaar memengaruhi novel Bumi Manusia yang ditunjukkan dengan penggunaan nama tokoh Max Tollenaar sebagai nama samaran Minke, Max Havelaar sebagai bahan bacaan yang dibawa oleh Magda Peters, dan sifat tokoh yang menolak penindasan, perampasan, penganiayaan, antidiskriminasi meskipun berimbas pada kerugian. Berdasarkan hasil analisis perbandingan makna didapatkan bahwa novel Max Havelaar dan Bumi Manusia sama-sama mengungkap makna kemanusiaan. Hasil kajian perbandingan novel Max Havelaar dan Bumi Manusia dimanfaatkan untuk menyusun buku pengayaan kepribadian untuk SMA.; Multatuli’s Max Havelaar and Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s Bumi Manusia belong to the world literature. The research aims to: (1) Find about and describe the textual structure and meanings of Max Havelaar; (2) Find about and describe the textual structure and meanings of Bumi Manusia; (3) Describe the results of comparing the textual structure and meanings of Max Havelaar and Bumi Manusia; and (4) Write a literary textbook for senior high school using the informative texts from Max Havelaar and Bumi Manusia. The objects of this research were Max Havelaar and Bumi Manusia novels. Through the paradigm of qualitative research, the present research adopted descriptive-comparative analysis and objective approach based on the literary works. Data were collected through literature review. In terms of procedures of comparative literature, the research applied structural analysis and then followed by applying Roland Barthes’ semiotics to reveal the meanings contained in both novels. Based on the textual structure analysis, it is found that there are similarities and differences between the two novels; thus, it can be concluded that Max Havelaar influences Bumi Manusia as shown by the use of Max Tollenaar’s name as the pseudonym of Minke; the fact that Max Havelaar was a book brought by Magda Peters; and the character is characterized as being against oppression, sequestration, torture, and discrimination, although these characteristics disadvantage him. Based on the comparative analysis, it is also found that Max Havelaar and Bumi Manusia both reveal the meanings of the humanism. The results of this comparative study of Max Havelaar and Bumi Manusia can be used to write a character enrichment book for senior high school.
