Abstract
Anak tunagrahita pada umumnya mengalami hambatan dalam kecerdasan, yang berdampak pada bidang akademik seperti membaca permulaan. Hambatan dalam membaca permulaan diantaranya disebabkan oleh adanya hambatan dalam persepsi, konsentrasi dan memori, sehingga dalam pembelajarannya diperlukan metode yang tepat dan dapat membantu anak tunagrahita dalam mengurangi hambatan yang mereka alami. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh metode VAKT terhadap kemampuan membaca permulaan anak tunagrahita ringan di SLB Purnama Asih. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode eksperimen Single Subject Research (SSR) dengan model desain A-B-A. Penelitian dilakukan di SLB Purnama Asih Kab. Bandung Barat dengan mengambil satu subjek penelitian yaitu anak tunagrahita ringan yang sedang duduk di kelas 1 SDLB dengan kemampuan awal dapat mengenal, dan membaca huruf. Berdasarkan pengolahan data, terdapat peningkatan pada mean level subjek pada fase baseline-1, fase intervensi (B) dan mean level fase baseline-2, dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa metode VAKT dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca permulaan anak tunagrahita ringan yang diteliti. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat dijadikan bahan pertimbangan bagi guru dalam menerapkan metode VAKT pada anak tunagrahita ringan pada proses pembelajaran membaca permulaan. ---------- Intellectual disability children generally have problems in intelligence, which have an impact on academic areas such as beginning reading. Obstacles in the beginning reading of which are caused by the existence of barriers in perception, concentration and memory, so that the required learning the proper methods and can assist children with intellectual challenges in reducing the barriers they experience. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of VAKT method on the beginning reading ability of mild intellectual disability children at SLB Purnama Asih. The method used is an experimental method Single Subject Research (SSR) with ABA design model. The research was done in SLB Purnama Asih Kab. Bandung Barat by taking an intellectual disability student who are sitting in class 1 SDLB as a subject, the prior knowledge are can recognize and read the letter. Based on data processing, there is an increase in the mean level of the subject at baseline phase-1, the intervention phase (B) and the mean baseline level of phase-2, thus it can be concluded that the VAKT method can improve the beginning reading ability of intellectual disability children. The results of this study are expected to be considered for teachers in applying VAKT methods to intellectual disability children at the beginning of the process of learning to read.
