    Abstract

    Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menguji keefektifan model problem based learning dalam meningkatkan kemampuan kognitif dan keterampilan berpikir kritis peserta didik, serta hubungan antara kemampuan kognitif dan keterampilan berpikir kritis peserta didik. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kuantitatif. Jenis penelitiannya quasi experimental dengan desain penelitian pretest-posttest control group design. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 59 peserta didik kelas XI di salah satu SMA Negeri Kota Bandung. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan ialah convenience sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan berjumlah 15 butir soal kemampuan kognitif dan 10 butir soal keterampilan berpikir kritis dengan bentuk pilihan ganda. Teknik analisis data menggunakan N-Gain, effect size, dan analisis korelasi serta regresi. Hasil penelitian menunjukan adanya perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan kognitif antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Untuk kelas eksperimen diperoleh N-Gain sebesar 0,72 masuk dalam kategori tinggi. Sedangkan N-Gain kelas control sebesar 0,56. Pada hasil penelitian untuk keterampilan berpikir kritis juga menunjukan adanya perbedaan peningkatan antara kedua kelas, dengan N-Gain kelas eksperimen sebesar 0,68 dan kelas control sebesar 0,54. Keduanya masuk dalam kategori sedang, namun kelas eksperimen memiliki N-Gain lebih tinggi dari kelas control. Model problem based learning berdampak pada peningkatan kemampuan kognitif dengan nilai effect size sebesar 1,1589 masuk dalam kategori tinggi. Sedangkan untuk keterampilan berpikir kritis 0,6242 masuk dalam kategori sedang. Kemampuan kognitif cukup berpengaruh dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis dengan koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,584 pada kategori sedang, dan koefisien determinasi sebesar 34,1%.   The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of the problem-based learning (PBL) model in improving students' cognitive abilities and critical thinking skills, as well as to investigate the relationship between cognitive abilities and critical thinking skills. The research employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design, specifically using the pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 59 eleventh-grade students from a public senior high school in Bandung. The sampling technique used was convenience sampling. The research instruments included 15 multiple-choice items for cognitive ability and 10 multiple-choice items for critical thinking skills. Data analysis techniques involved N-Gain, effect size, correlation, and regression analyses. The results showed a difference in the improvement of cognitive abilities between the experimental and control classes. The experimental class achieved an N-Gain score of 0.72, which falls into the high category, while the control class had an N-Gain score of 0.56. Regarding critical thinking skills, there was also a difference in improvement between the two classes, with the experimental class obtaining an N-Gain score of 0.68 and the control class 0.54. Both scores are categorized as moderate, although the experimental class demonstrated a higher gain. The PBL model significantly impacted the improvement of cognitive abilities, with an effect size of 1.1589, categorized as high. For critical thinking skills, the effect size was 0.6242, categorized as moderate. Cognitive ability was found to have a moderate influence on critical thinking skills, with a correlation coefficient of 0.584 and a coefficient of determination of 34.1%.
