Abstract
Kemampuan komunikasi matematis merupakan aspek penting dalam pembelajaran matematika, karena menjadi dasar dalam memahami dan menyampaikan ide matematis secara lisan maupun tulisan. Namun, studi menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan ini masih rendah di kalangan siswa, dan salah satu faktor yang memengaruhinya adalah gender. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pengaruh model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Think-Pair-Share (TPS) terhadap peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa SMA ditinjau berdasarkan gender. Metode yang digunakan adalah quasi eksperimen dengan desain pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah siswa SMA kelas X di salah satu SMA yang berada di Kota Bandung dengan 2 kelas diantaranya menjadi sampel penelitian yang diambil dengan teknik purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah instrumen tes berupa soal kemampuan komunikasi matematis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa yang belajar menggunakan model TPS memiliki pencapaian dan peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan siswa yang belajar secara konvensional. Selain itu, terdapat perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis antara siswa laki-laki dan perempuan. Dengan demikian, model TPS efektif digunakan dalam meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa serta dapat membantu mengurangi kesenjangan berdasarkan gender. Mathematical communication skills are an essential aspect of mathematics learning, as they serve as the foundation for understanding and conveying mathematical ideas both orally and in written form. However, studies have shown that these skills remain low among students, and one of the influencing factors is gender. This study aims to examine the effect of the Think-Pair-Share (TPS) cooperative learning model on improving high school students' mathematical communication skills viewed from a gender perspective. The research employed a quasi-experimental method using a pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design. The population consisted of 10th grade students at a high school in Bandung, with two classes selected as research samples through purposive sampling. The instrument used was a mathematical communication skills test. The results showed that students taught using the TPS model achieved higher levels of mathematical communication skills and greater improvement compared to those taught using conventional methods. In addition, there was a difference in improvement between male and female students. Therefore, the TPS model is effective in enhancing students’ mathematical communication skills and can help reduce gender-based disparities.
