Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji masalah peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman matematis, penalaran matematis, dan self confidence siswa SMP dengan pembelajaran menggunakan metode penemuan terbimbing. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian eksperimen dengan desain penelitian kuasi eksperimen berbentuk kelompok kontrol non-ekivalen. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII di salah satu SMP di Kota Bandung pada tahun ajaran 2013/2014. Adapun sampelnya yaitu satu kelas yang dijadikan kelas eksperimen dan satu kelas lagi dijadikan kelas kontrol. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Kedua kelas diberikan pretes, kemudian pembelajaran dengan menggunakan metode penemuan terbimbing secara berkelompok diberikan kepada kelas eksperimen dan pembelajaran konvensional pada kelas kontrol. Instrumen terdiri dari tes kemampuan pemahaman, penalaran matematis, dan skala self confidence siswa. Pengolahan data peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman dan penalaran matematis menggunakan uji-t, data skala self confidencemenggunakan uji Mann-Whitney, dan data hubungan antara kemampuan pemahaman dan penalaran matematis, kemampuan pemahaman matematis dan self confidence, dan kemampuan penalaran matematis dan self confidence menggunakan uji korelasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman dan penalaran matematis serta self confidence siswa yang mendapatkan metode penemuan terbimbing lebih baik daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran konvensional serta terdapat asosiasi dengan kategori sedang antara kemampuan pemahaman dan penalaran matematis serta self confidence siswa. The aims of this study are assessingthe improvement ofmathematicalunderstanding, mathematical reasoning, andself-confidence by learning and teachingjunior high school studentsusing theguided discoverymethod. The research methodusedin this studyisexperimentalresearchmethodwith aquasi-experimentalresearchdesignin the form ofa non-equivalent control group. The populations in this research are allthe third grade studentsin one ofjunior high school in Bandungin the year academic 2013/2014. Thesampleisaclassthat isused asthe experimental classand one other as thecontrol class. The process of sampling is usingpurposive sampling technique. Both classesare giventhe pretest, thenlearningusingguided discoverymethodgiven in a groupofexperimental classandthe control class using conventional learning method. The instrumentconsistsof atestmathematical understanding, mathematical reasoning, and thescale of students’ self-confidence. The data processingcapabilitiesincreasemathematical understandingandmathematical reasoningusing t-test, self-confidencescale datausingthe Mann-Whitney test, andthe dataconnection betweenmathematical understandingandmathematical reasoning, understanding ofmathematicalabilityandself-confidence, andmathematicalreasoning skillsandself-confidence using the correlation test.The results showedthat increasingthe mathematical understandingandmathematical reasoningabilityand students’ self-confidence whoget aguided discoverymethodis betterthan thestudents who receivedconventional learningand there isan associationwith amiddle categorybetweenmathematical understandingandmathematical reasoningabilityandself-confidence of students.
