    Abstract

    Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa di salah satu sekolah dasar yang berada Kabupaten Tasikmalaya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui metode Fernald berbantuan koper literasi efektif terhadap kemampuan membaca permulaan pada siswa kelas 1. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode pre-eksperimental dan desain yang digunakan adalah one group pretest-posttest. Populasi dalam penelitian ini seluruh siswa kelas 1 sebanyak satu rombongan belajar, dengan sampel sebanyak 26 siswa yang dipilih melalui teknik purposive sampling. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan tes lisan, sementara teknik analisis data dilakukan melalui uji Wilcoxon dan uji perbedaan terhadap skor N-Gain. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rata-rata skor pretest adalah 35,69, sedangkan skor posttest meningkat menjadi 45,88, sehingga terjadi peningkatan sebesar 10,19. Hasil uji Wilcoxon menunjukkan nilai signifikansi sebesar ρ <0,001 < α 0,05 yang artinya terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada kemampuan membaca permulaan setelah penerapan metode Fernald berbantuan koper literasi. Sementara itu, hasil perhitungan N-Gain sebesar 0,67 termasuk dalam kategori sedang. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa metode Fernald berbantuan koper literasi efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa. This research was motivated by the low level of students' beginning reading ability in one of the elementary schools in Tasikmalaya Regency. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the Fernald method assisted by literacy suitcases was effective on beginning reading skills in grade 1 students. This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental method and the design used was one group pretest-posttest. The population in this study was all 1st grade students in one study group, with a sample of 26 students selected through purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using oral tests, while data analysis techniques were carried out through the Wilcoxon test and the difference test on N-Gain scores. The results showed that the average pretest score was 35.69, while the posttest score increased to 45.88, resulting in an increase of 10.19. The Wilcoxon test results showed a significance value of ρ < 0.001 < α 0.05 which means there is a significant difference in the ability to read beginning after the application of the Fernald method assisted by literacy suitcases. Meanwhile, the N-Gain calculation result of 0.67 is included in the medium category. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the Fernald method assisted by literacy suitcases is effective in improving students' beginning reading skills.
