Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh metode Total Physical Response (TPR) terhadap peningkatan kemampuan kosakata Bahasa Inggris anak kelompok B di TK Pelita Bandung. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain pre- eksperimen dengan pengukuran pre-test dan post-test. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes dan dokumentasi, melibatkan 18 anak sebagai partisipan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebelum penerapan metode TPR, kemampuan kosakata Bahasa Inggris anak sebagian besar berada pada kategori rendah, dengan skor rata- rata pre-test sebesar 31,11. Sebagian besar anak (89%) masuk dalam kategori rendah. Setelah penerapan metode TPR, terjadi peningkatan signifikan pada kemampuan kosakata anak. Skor rata-rata post-test meningkat menjadi 66,72, dengan 22% anak masuk dalam kategori sangat tinggi, 50% kategori tinggi, dan 28% kategori sedang. Analisis statistik menggunakan uji paired sample t-test menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan antara hasil pre-test dan post-test, dengan nilai p sebesar 0,000 (p < 0,05). Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa metode TPR efektif meningkatkan kemampuan kosakata Bahasa Inggris anak. Penggunaan aktivitas menarik seperti lagu aksi dan gerakan fisik membantu anak lebih mudah memahami dan mengingat kosakata baru. Disarankan agar pendidik mengintegrasikan metode TPR dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris anak usia dini untuk menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang lebih interaktif dan menyenangkan. This study aims to analyze the impact of the Total Physical Response (TPR) method on improving the English vocabulary skills of children in Group B at TK Pelita Bandung. The research used a pre-experimental design with pre-test and post-test measurements. Data were collected through tests and documentation, involving 18 children as participants. The results showed that before applying the TPR method, children’s English vocabulary skills were predominantly low, with an average pre-test score of 31.11. Most children (89%) were categorized as having low proficiency. After implementing the TPR method, there was a significant improvement in vocabulary skills. The average post-test score increased to 66.72, with 22% of children categorized as very high, 50% as high, and 28% as moderate. Statistical analysis using paired sample t-tests confirmed a significant difference between pre-test and post-test results, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). This research concludes that the TPR method is effective in enhancing children’s English vocabulary. The use of engaging activities, such as action songs and physical movements, helps children better understand and retain new words. It is recommended that educators integrate TPR into early childhood English learning to create a more interactive and enjoyable learning environment.
