Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengatasi berbagai permasalahan rendahnya tingkat kemampuan membaca pemahaman kritis siswa. Membaca pemahaman merupakan kegiatan membaca yang bertujuan untuk memperoleh informasi yang terkandung di dalam teks bacaan. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya tingkat kemampuan membaca khususnya dalam pemahaman bacaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh metode discovery based reading terhadap kemampuan membaca pemahaman kritis siswa SD. Metode yang digunakan adalah quasi-eksperimen dengan desain The Matching-Only Pre-test-Post-test Control Group Design, melibatkan siswa kelas V di kedua sekolah yang berada di Kabupaten Bandung. Rerata pre-test kelas eksperimen yaitu 52,0833 dan post-test kelas eksperimen yaitu 88,7500 sehingga di kelas eksperimen mengalami peningkatan. Nilai rerata pre-test kelas kontrol yaitu 37,4000 dan post-test kelas kontrol yaitu 76,9000 sehingga di kelas kontrol mengalami peningkatan. Adapun nilai tertinggi pada post-test kelas eksperimen yaitu 100 dan nilai terendah post-test kelas eksperimen 80. Adapun nilai tertinggi pada post-test kelas kontrol 82,5 dan nilai terendah post-test kelas kontrol 65. Tidak terdapat perbedaan pengaruh kemampuan membaca pemahaman kritis antara yang menggunakan metode discovery based reading dengan yang menggunakan metode SQ3R.

This research was conducted to address various problems of low levels of students' critical reading comprehension skills. Reading comprehension is a reading activity that aims to obtain information contained in the reading text. This study was motivated by the low level of reading ability, especially in reading comprehension. This study aims to determine the effect of the discovery based reading method on the critical reading comprehension skills of elementary school students. The method used was a quasi-experiment with the Matching-Only Pre-test-Post-test Control Group Design, involving fifth grade students in both schools in Bandung Regency. The average pre-test of the experimental class was 52.0833 and the post-test of the experimental class was 88.7500 so that there was an increase in the experimental class. The average pre-test value of the control class was 37.4000 and the post-test of the control class was 76.9000 so that there was an increase in the control class. The highest score in the post-test of the experimental class was 100 and the lowest score in the post-test of the experimental class was 80. The highest score in the post-test of the control class was 82.5 and the lowest score in the post-test of the control class was 65. There is no difference in the influence of critical reading comprehension skills between those using the discovery based reading method and those using the SQ3R method.
